BlackBerry 9000 to sport front-facing video camera?
What’s that RIM has up their sleeves for the BlackBerry 9xxx? Could it be a front-facing video camera? According to Spanish blogger Luis Rodriguez, the answer is yes. It seems that Rodriguez has had a prototype version of the upcoming 9xxx on hand for a little while now, and recently revealed a couple of interesting bits of information. According to Rodriguez, the new BlackBerry will sport an external microSD slot, similar to the current Pearl 2 models, a bigger battery to handle the 3G radio. We already knew this, but, he goes on to say there’s a front-facing video camera for video-chatting. We haven’t heard any info that would suggest the presence of a front facing camera, but we suppose a surprise or two from RIM wouldn’t be unwelcome. If the rumor is true, let’s just hope it doesn’t further contribute to the power management issues that seem to be plaguing the new handset.

every week there is some “new thing” discovered about blackberry 9000 - it’s ridiculous and kinda annoying. almost as much as the iphone 2 annoyance.
i want a new phone but with all these “speculations” about what these phones will/won’t have has me at the “i’ll believe it, when i see it” phase…

The video conferencing sounds cool! I hope Tmo gets it first. If ATT does, hasta la vista Tmo….

Does it matter? Even if the phone has it, AT&T will make them take it off the carrier-branded version. See also: Moto V3xx, at&t Tilt, etc.

Do yourself a favor then. Don’t read mobile phone blogs and wait for the devices to hit the shelves in the retail store. Then you’ll know the exact specs of the device and won’t have to irritate us with your stupid posts.

Makes sense to have a front facing on the euro version. since video conferencing hasnt really been adopted in america, the carriers here will have the cam removed, like someone above mentioned.

Perhaps it does, but no picture that we’ve seen to date, even those featured on Gizmologia, has shown a front-facing camera.

Josh,
Do you remember when somebody said the Tilt would have a front-facing VGA cam? Me neither but I know somebody said it and my point is that if att screwed the Tilt then why wouldn’t they screw the 9000?

The keyboard is different than the 88XX series phones. Similar. BUT DIFFERENT. Pay more attention.

While it is not “true” video conferencing, at&t does already offer a service called video share. a very neat and future-thinking product. I would recommend everybody check it out!

It’s true that the photos we have seen so far do not show a front-facing camera. However, the pictures of the back-side camera of the ‘9000′ show that RIM has removed the self-portrait mirror: see http://www.engadgetmobile.com/photos/blackberry-9000-in-the-wild-1/723569/
They’ve replaced it with the Blackberry logo. This seems to indicate that either RIM found the mirror useless and removed it or that with the addition of a front-facing camera, the mirror is no longer required…
