@jose: I know that you had not understood my initial points. They were not made to undermine all of the positive aspects of the iPhone, which, in my opinion, leave all others in the dust. Other companies are demonstrating products that try to emulate the iPhone in looks, but they fail miserably with respect to performance.

I do agree that there’s some minor details on the iPhone they have to work on, but maybe by June they can cover that with the new software.

June is going to be interesting, hopefully I can get my hands on the new model.

Frankly, I can’t imagine why anyone take the time or wastes the energy hating on any device. It’s foolish and proves/solves nothing. If you don’t like something, or it doesn’t have features you need, just get something else.

There is plenty room in this world for all kinds of devices. I say the more choice the better.

It’s idiotic to think that something is useless because it (currently) lacks MMS. Unless you are a teenager, who gives a crap about MMS. Especially when you can email a photo for FREE. FREE vs. MM$ charges? Come ‘on.

I actually have an 8G iPhone that I purchased two days after launch last year for $599; and I switched from Verizon to AT&T in order to get the iPhone. I would have purchased the 16G version if I didn’t think that the 3G will be out at some point within the next few months. I also have a Palm Treo 700w with WM, and I absolutely hate the fact that it is slow and buggy (as I stated before).

I definitely love everything that the iPhone does well, and I understand that this is Apple’s first generation phone. I just wish that some of the basic features were on it from the outset. I don’t need to edit Word/PowerPoint documents on it, but I would like to do a search within contacts. I believe that firmware 2.0 (beta 3) that was just distributed to developers has that search feature, and I look forward to having it as well. And I know that tons of apps will be available via the AppStore in June. Business users will definitely love the fact that they will be able to view their business e-mails and contacts via Exchange.

I don’t really need GPS, since I have GPS in my car (but bluetooth capability in order to access a GPS device via bluetooth would be nice). And full bluetooth functionality (A2DP for stereo bluetooth headphones and the ability to add a bluetooth keyboard and/or mouse would be an added bonus).

The iPhone is definitely a smartphone. Anybody who says that it isn’t doesn’t really know much about the OS on it and its filesystem structure. It’s an impressive multimedia device with excellent processing power.

Again, my criticism is constructive criticism, and I apologize for any rude comment that I made! I own this device, and I love it. But I just want to see Apple do with the iPhone what it has done with Leopard – that is to create a device that is revolutionary and forward thinking in every way. I will definitely purchase the 3G iPhone when it comes out, since I am confident that Apple will offer almost all of the features that I seek through firmware version 2.0 and the AppStore.

June is going to be a fun month!!

The iPhone is a work in progress. As far as the contact search, I agree and amd fortunate to have it in my 2.0 beta firmware. You will like the update. Exchange rocks!

nitesmoke/heathen: You both are dead wrong. The iPhone is a smartphone. With real web, email, txt, video and audio, and a qwerty keyboard, it more than qualifies as a smartphone by definition. MMS is not a qualifier of a smartphone because dumbphones have that capability. Short of corporate email, which the device will have in June, what does it lack that would NOT qualify it as a smartphone. And your comment about Apple is just STUPID. They launched what they had tested and ready for the iPhone. They didn’t decide they you couldn’t have it. That’s like saying that HTC and RIM decided you CANT have GPS or Wifi in ALL their devices. It’s just what they choose to make and support per the device.

Again, to all the haters: if it doesn’t suit your needs, don’t buy it. You jerks act like you are being forced to own one. If you don’t like it, stick with what works for you. I’m sure that whatever you are carrying is perfect and has no downside. Perhaps you could notate what you carry with your posts so we can point out it’s shortcomings. If it’s a Palm or WM device, we’ll need a larger forum, that’s for sure.

Look I get the point, you need to get a life and stop hating on the iPhone.
I know the iPhone isnt the best phone in the world, but its getting better. Its Apple’s first handheld and they did a pretty good job, so give them a break. You probably own some Blackberry that keeps having new models every 3 months or a FAT windows mobile device. So get a grip dude.

I had a Treo 700w before purchasing the iPhone, and it is truly slow and buggy. I definitely do not want the iPhone to become that way, but I don’t think that it would be too difficult to add a search function within Contacts. And it should not make the phone any slower. If you have a lot of contacts, it is a pain in the neck to flip through screen after screen of contacts or to try to tap on those tiny letters on the right hand side of the phone. I know that much of these features will be available in June via firmware 2.0 or the AppStore, but I just hope that Apple listens to the users of the phone and provides certain features out of the box. I feel embarrassed when I go onto a website (non-porn in some cases) that a friend asks me to look up, and nothing shows up because it only has flash content; or if somebody asks me to look for a contact and it takes me forever to flip through screen after screen of contacts; or if somebody sends me an MMS message and I have no way to view it directly on the phone. That just does not make much sense to me. Apple is better than that, and I have not seen a good reason stated for the lack of such features.

You are either an idiot or you cannot read. If you look at the last sentence of my post, I say that some of these features are available on a HACKED phone. But if I pay $400 for a phone, these features should come on the stock phone. And I shouldn’t have to start a new app or purchase one to do a search of my contacts – that is not an advanced feature. Do you get my point now, dumb idiot?

Does it even enter your mind, or lack thereof, that if a person wants or needs to purchase a device (headache) like that, they would just buy it? Much of that the crap that WM has is useless anyway. Edit spreadsheets on a 3″ screen? Gimme a break. And I don’t care what browser you use on them, Opera or PIE, the browsing experience still blows at best. And forget about even the most BASIC reason that people buy a mobile phone anyway: to make calls! I never had a PPC device that was easy to make a simple phone call with. Or had enough battery life to make it though an entire business day.

You can shove as many features into a device that you want but that alone doesn’t make it better. Fact is, with all the bells and whistles of WM devices, they still sorely lack in providing a solid, stable and pleasant user experiance like the iPhone does. For a very short time, you can still argue that WM devices have more features. But you’ll never be able to argue that it’s solid, stable, dependable, and user friendly. Maybe in the years to come when they get to WM 8.blah blah build, they will be able to accomplish something close to that.

When it fact the iPhone has matched WM devices feature for feature, what excuse are you going to use then for still carrying around your Winblows pocket bricks? You little WM zombies are the last people that need to throw the “fanboy” stone. If you need something now for corporate use until the iPhone gets there, at least be smart enough to go with a Blackberry. Stay away from WM.
