Verizon’s new Smartphone data plan and pricing revealed

Looking for a little Verizon Smartphone plan info and pricing to brighten up your Sunday afternoon? The wireless carrier is set to launch a new add-on data plan called the Email and Web for Smartphone plan. The new service will enable "unlimited" data access, and is targeted at people that want to access email, web, and other data features on their Verizon Wireless handset. This is only available for those that need to access personal email, as no corporate Exchange access will be allowed under the new provisioning. That said, the price is right, with the new package starting at just $29.99 before any applicable service discounts. Expect this to be available for the Verizon XV6800, Motorola Q9m, and SMT5800, starting tomorrow, April 14th.

[Thanks, Omie!]

Isn’t this plan just $19.99 for Sprint and doesn’t Verizon already have this plan for Blackberrys?

“Standard B2B discounts are available” - does that mean it should work with employee discounts? Or only certain ones?

True, but Sprint also sucks. They need their plans to be so cheap so they can retain as many customers as possible and avoid going out of business.

Apparently you can’t ask Verizon a question on their fugly/CDMA BB Curve Smartphone availability. I asked once in February after reading a post about the Curve coming to VZW. They would not advise any info, just suggested I look at their existing BB’s. Then I ask yesterday after reading other BGR posts, and I was advised I’ve asked this question ’several times before’ and they still wouldn’t give me an answer. Overpriced, with old phones and pointless customer service support. Now this crap on a ‘Smartphone data plan’??? They suck.
They nickle and dime you. My contract expires in August. Hello AT&T! I can hear you here too!

This is awesome for Verizon customers who have been on the fence for a smartphone because of their ridiculous 45.00 plan.

It certainly has me thinking smartphone again.

I don’t get it… I only pay $29 for data on my Pearl… why is this a big deal?

I think it’s a big deal because it puts the BlackBerry and PDA plans in parity. AT&T has done this for months, and it gives customers the choice as to which smartphone they want, BlackBerry or WinMo/Palm.

Yeah, this is nothing new if you’ve had a Blackberry, its what they charge for each BB you add to a fanily share plan. So I guess I could add WinMo’s at that price too.

Comparing to Sprint data service? Puh-leeze. No comparison.

Your funny dude, you honestly think a company would release information about a product that isn’t due for launch months away?! you must live in la la land, and you expect better service at AT&T?! yea right dude, they wouldn’t give you any early information just like any other company, so if you think your getting one up going backwards on technology, go for it!

Couple of items people are either missing or misunderstanding:

    - This is for VZW PDA phones–the same thing has been rolled out for VZW BB phones when it comes to the BIS unlimited data package, but not to VZW PDA phones, which is what this is about.

    - The cap of 5 GB is there, but it’s not truly a “cap”, all that can happen now is that once you are over 5 GB your speeds can get throttled somewhat (and more often than not even that doesn’t happen).

I have been throttled down on my aircard but never on my Q, it doesn’t seem possible to on the phone, unless you’re tethering.

Well, I have the Treo 700WX. According to the Rep I just spoke with, the only “code” she sees for this new plan is still for the BB users. Anyone know if this plan will be available for my phone?

so how do they differentiate between corporate email and personal email? It’s all the same data, seems like another way to screw people…

@ DMz6–it only works with certain phones and your phone is not one of them. The 5800, 6800, and Q9 are the only compatible phones.

@ joshrys–they aren’t “screwing” you. They just know that corporate users typically uses way more data and you send/recieve bigger files. Att does the same thing, they differentiate as well
