NHL Launches Broadband Video Service as Playoffs Get Underway

Hockey fans rejoice! The playoffs are here, the Devils are playing the Rangers and all is good in the world of the NHL. Guess what? Things just got better. The NHL has just announced the successful launch of its new broadband video service where fans can go to get kinds of highlights, features and even exclusive programming. Dubbed NHL Network Online, the service is tied to nhl.com and hockey fans will be proud that their favorite sport is paving the way for online sports media. This new solution is ad-supported and built by NeuLion, broadband broadcasting specialist. Users beware: If you have an old PC or a slow internet connection then this new service might be a bit much for your rig to handle, but BGR readers are geared up right? NHL Network Online is home to a bunch of content such as highlight reels, live coverage, hockey specials, podcasts and more that are spread across seven unique channels. No more hunting around the net and various team sites; one-stop-shop approach from top to bottom. There’s also an exclusive show, "The Hockey Show", that features dedicated hosts and content that you won’t find anywhere else. It’s also an in for non-XM subscribers as XM content can be found alongside video simulcasts. If your IT manager starts yelling at you for sucking up all of your office bandwidth though, don’t come crying to us.

BG, I guess you’re not a New York Rangers fan. Shame on you.

Toronto’s beloved Maple Leafs didn’t make the finals for the third year in a row. (Sigh) But yes, we still love them, and there’s always next year.

    Keep on Crackin’,

God I love the playoffs. This time of year is seriously better than Christmas.

Oh, and the CBC is streaming most (all?) of their games online at cbcsports.ca. There might be IP location restrictions, but I dunno.

    Habs all the way!

I also LOVE the playoffs. I went to see my San Jose Sharks dominate Calgary last night. What a game! I don’t care what anyone says, we have the loudest fans in the league. Watch out Detroit, we’re coming for ya!
