New AT&T rebate sheet

The folks over at AT&T are up to no good again, having cooked up a new rebate sheet for the Spring retail season. While there aren’t a whole lot of earth-shattering new devices going up in the near future, the sheet does reveal a couple of gems. First up is the BlackBerry 8110, which you can expect to grab with a $50 rebate as soon as it goes on sale. For those with savage short-term memory problems, the 8110 is essentially the Pearl 2 with embedded GPS. Next up is the Pantech Breeze, aka the C520. We’re not entirely sure about the specifics on this one, but chances are good that it will slot in as an entry-level flip with diminutive proportions. As far as we can tell, those are the only two new handsets for the coming term. While there’s no word of the iPhone 2, that shouldn’t be too much of a problem, as those things tend not to show up on rebate forms. Oh, and in case you’re interested, you can still pick up a Motorola RAZR V3XX. Nostalgia is a beautiful thing.

Looks good. So these are amounts off of the amount you pay at the store after automatic discounts and other rebates ? What would that make the Tilt ?

I like getting a cheaper price, even if it involves the red-tape of a rebate. That makes AT&T evil!?!?

    Go-Go AT&T!

It still makes me mad that att took HTC’s name off the Tilt and put on their own, keeping in mind that HTC is on the back, it still kinda gets to me.

The ATT rebates are bogus because they issue rebates in the form of a Visa card and apply an expiraton date. So, if you do not use up all the cash before the expiration date you forfiet all of the remainder………….if they promise you cash in rebate and give you a visa card why put any expiration date on it….when the money is gone it is gone with no way to steal from ATT, but they steal from the customer when they take from us the choice of when we would like to use the money….they stole nearly $100 from us and refused to reissue a new card with the remainder balance on it. Next time someone offers me a rebate they will handing me CASH in hand not some time coded visa card.

I have been waiting since last August 07 for a $50 rebate when I signed up for the High Speed Internet. Phone calls, many hours waiting, being transfered, plus several letters of giving spcific information all ignored. I would like to have AT&T for my TV, but do not dare to make a change that would entail more non attention to promised rebtes.

I think at&t is stalling on paying my rebate. They sent me a letter saying the purchase date on the cash register receipt or packing slip is either missing or not within the valid dates of this offer. When I called them, they said “Oh, the real problem is that I did not have the right form, but they had it fixed”.
If that was so, why send the letter. When I took the paperwork to the store where I bought the phone the clerk said the form was right as was all the information.

Good luck w/ that. You will be shown the way out the door. What makes you think that you are better than anybody else by demanding to get cash in hand rather than go through the process like the millions of other at&t customers have done. The rebate process is simple, fill out the form, remove the barcode label from the box, obtain a duplicate copy of your sales receipt, and mail it out to the address that is provided on the form. The people who complain about rebates are the ones who are too retarded to follow these simple instructions and get denied their rebates. Lucky for those idiots that there is a rebate escalation process. The phone number to escalate or dispute the denial of your rebate is provided for you conveniently on the rebate form. If your rebuttal will be “this limits me to how and when i spend it”, then you’re even more of an idiot. I’m sure you can fill up your gas tank w/ $50, or pay some bill if it was a $100 rebate. To simplify it for you, you can EASILY find a way to spend your rebate before the card expires. If you do not manage to spend your rebate by the time your card expires, simply call the 800 number provided for you conveniently on the rebate form and one will be reissued with “gasp”, a new expiration date. You guys really need to get over it and go through the process just like any other person. Demanding a cash in hand rebate is ridiculous, in an industry where you have to wait for your rebates. The purpose of rebates is to ensure you keep the service, and prevents fraudulent activity with activations and returns. Furthermore, just because some of you are “long time” or “good customers” or “pay your bills on time for a long time” are not entitled to any special treatment above and beyond any other person who walks into any retail location. All I would have to say to that is congratulations on being a responsible adult and kudos to you for paying your bill on time, now go pat yourself on the back and have a cookie idiot.

AT&T needs to be better regulated by the FCC. They scam users by misleading them with cheap pricing and then adding numerous charges and fees to the user’s bill and initial purchase price. I have been with this company for over a decade now and every time that I get a new phone or renew my plan, I feel so robbed! So unfairly treated.

Unlike other long-term purchases such as a house, car, or an insurance package, AT&T provides no cost-representative estimate of monthly bills. Taxes and surcharges are numerous and a “good faith” estimate ought to be provided to customers so that they know when the shady 22 year old high school drop-out sales rep (according to my experience, by no means a generalization) says that the bill will be “About $85.” This actually means about $120 with the near essential text messaging plan, various surcharges, and taxes. I find that this sort of business practice is really unethical and slathers AT&T with a patina of sleaziness akin to a used-car salesman.

When AT&T advertises a phone for a certain price, the price is nearly always encapsulating a “rebate”, which unlike rebates of old, is a faux credit card that expires, unlike the money which I was told that I would NOT have to pay. Rebates can take up to 3 months to arrive during which time, I could have used that $50 - $100 or earned some sort of interest on my money…the latter of which, I have a feeling AT&T is doing with my money.

In conclusion, this is not a complaint about the service or products of AT&T, rather their billing and advertising policies. The job of the FCC is to protect consumers from ongoing fraudulent practices by communications companies. This is not an acute problem it’s a chronic one that needs serious governmental intervention.
