Windows 7 coming next year
That is, of course, if Bill Gates is to be believed. The founder and former CEO of the software giant indicated today that we should see a version of Windows 7 by June, 2009. The news was revealed as part of Gates’ presentation to Microsoft investors today, where he said that Windows XP would be phased out in June 2010, "or one year after the general availability of Windows 7". This might be as close as we get to Microsoft admitting that Vista isn’t quite so…impressive, but the 2009 Windows 7 timetable is pretty significant for a company that usually takes its sweet time with product revisions.

If XP is ended in June of 2010 then you would expect Windows 7 to be released a year before that however… If XP isn’t then that would mean that Win7 isn’t really coming out in June 09.
They did after all say in the next 2-3 years so thats really not a set date yet.

Unlike many people, I am enjoying Vista.
A lot visually pleasing than XP, and I personally have not had any issues after the beta testing.
And if when Win7 comes out, I’ll be on that boat too.
Long live Windows!

So anytime a software company announces a new version of their software is in the work is an admission that the existing version is less than impressive?
Just to show when someone is baised against a company, they would be able to interpret anything to suit their view. It’s a pity.

I my self enjoy Windows Vista as well. It is easy on the eyes and I enjoy the lot “smoother” look and feel.
I am also glad that service pack 1 has been released as I have not had any issues with it what so ever.
Windows 7 if it does come out within the next 1-2 years I must say will kind of make me upset especially it looks similar and doesn’t have any “major” improvements.
I’d rather it just be released as a service pack if anything, and have them wait roughly 3-4 years and release a Windows operating system.

Windows 7? are you kidding? Vista SP1 is not even deployed yet & there is talk of W7? Vista may be bloated and heavy for EU’rs tho this is amid reports from uninformed and mis media reports. Blah! but hey, W7 should have been the OS that should have been released in the first place not a polished version of XP ..er Vista

I hope it delivers better performance than vista. I run XP on thre machines, and I really want the vista UI with a smaller footprint and thebehaivior of XP. I run xp with a bunch of UI tweaks on a 1.8 ghz sempron dell lappie and it’s still way faster than vista on a 2.5 ghz dual core. I only hope macrosoft can pull off the same feat natively.

WinME all over again… come on. Vista is bad, microsoft knows it, and this announcement is just them admitting it. A lot of experts saw this coming, and now it’s happening. Sure, vista has smoother look and feel, but how annoying can it get? With failing software and applications, the eternal network frustrations from infrastructure that hasn’t really changed since windows 98, i think it’s time for a change. Perhaps if they spend a little more time developing the service pack they could have vista around until 2010-12, but i guess they chose otherwise.
