T-Mobile and HTC providing replacement Wing batteries due to overheating

Uh oh. So it looks like T-Mobile’s Windows Mobile-based Wing handset might be having some battery troubles. Wing owners have been quietly receiving replacement batteries in the mail. The new batteries are manufactured by Celxpert, which marks a departure from the original Dynapack-sourced juice packs. The new batteries are accompanied by a short note that reads:

T-Mobile and HTC are providing a replacement for the T-Mobile Wing battery made by Dynapack at not charge to you due to rare occurrences of the battery overheating.

"Rare occurrences", eh? Sounds a bit ominous. Has anyone out there experienced any issues with the Wing battery? Let us know!

If it was rare then would would they nationally allow free battery replacements. You have got to love the english language.

my battery on my shadow gets burning hot when being used on the charger. i emailed one of our HTC reps about it when the phone launched and he said they knew about it but had no plans on remedying the issue. hopefully with this maybe they will now as well.

T-Mobile tried to deliver a battery to me today. I didn’t know until UPS called at 10pm tonight to confirm that I lived here.

So, they are sending one to you now if you got a Wing. They just aren’t telling you in advance. “Let’s keep this quiet.”

With all the Wing issues I am surprised that I still use it. Most of the problems are the brand new not ready for prime time Windows Mobile 6. Some I have fixed, some I should fix – with home made remedies found on XDA developers.

Yes Im having the same issue. I am a wing user and like it a lot (minus the tiny processor) However Im a power user and use the device quite often. I noticed at times when it’s on for a while such as when Im listening to pod casts etc… the battery pack does get quite hot, this also happens when it’s just charging sometimes also. We’ll see what the new battery does…

Yes, My original battery heated up like fire and did so for about 30 minutes. I got it replaced and then about a month ago I got the same package as described above. Just today the Celxpert battery decide not to charge up! So I called T-mobile to get it replaced and they originally said they did not send out the battery. I called HTC and they said they did not send out either???? So now I’m stuck with a dead battery and I’m on the phone with T-mobile again telling them to look online and do a search for the battery replacement issues… stating that their are plenty of searches describing the replacement of all wing batteries and that it should still be under warranty and that they should pay for the replacement battery. But they are telling me that it is my responsibility because my warranty is up on the phone ??? Yet I just got the new battery 6 weeks ago? Shouldn’t their be a warranty on the new battery if it was just sent out?
