New iPhone to sport a case redesign?

Apple fanboys attack! We’re pretty hesitant to believe this one for ourselves, although it would make sense. There’s this image floating around that claims to be the back of the new 3G iPhone. Sportin’ a glossy black finish, it seems as if the entire back panel is now plastic instead of metal. This would bode well for the influx of antennas Apple is rumored to have added. 850MHz/1900MHz/2100MHz WCDMA, 802.11n, Bluetooth, etc. Sound off in the comments about what you think of the photo…real? Plausible? Absolutely without a doubt fake? Have at it!

Also check out the 8GB mark on the case, and also how the text is aligned differently than the existing iPhones.

It could go either way. I get asked all the time what colors the phone comes in. I’m not suggesting they make it in multiple colors (inventory nightmare) but the silver with the black plastic piece on the bottom could be improved upon. That being said that thing looks nice. I hope it is the next one.

BGR, Engadget hasn’t spoke yet so it has to be a fake.

Considering nearly every other cellphone on the planet is made of plastic, I don’t think this is a big deal.

    Just for clarification.

That comment was directed at ppcmd, who eluded that the plastic casing would be less durable than the current case.

WCDMA? What does that mean?! Will it be able to run off Verizon CDMA?

    It’s real. Here is why:

    1. I see no evidence of the stupid recessed headphone jack on the top. At this angle on a current iPhone, you can see a rounded indentation for the jack. Try it yourself at home. The absence of an indentation in the photo suggests that this is a new model (in which they have, thankfully, reworked the stupid headphone jack).

    2. Also, look at the bottom edge. Two sets of double indents on the edge. The current iPhone has no such indents. Just one opening for the USB jack.

If this were a fake, I doubt the faker would have thought to change these subtle aspects of the phone.

I can believe the design… but 8GB? I don’t see how a second gen iphone would sell with anything less than 16GB

Mike – Not saying it’s real of not, but just because the angle of the lens cover follows the shape of the case doesn’t mean that the lens itself isn’t aimed properly…

    @ mike:

no, it will not run on Verizon.

The W-CDMA is “Wideband Code Division Multiple Access” and is a 3G network standard.

i hope not, but i would prefer it to be all black just not glossy, maybe like the macbook 13′ black, its plastic and its a nice finish, but since i live in canada forget about it never going to see it

Might be legit, who really cares until it’s in stores anyway? The contours on the back make this one look rounder and narrower than the original iPhone. Also, notice that there’s no “seam” on the back (original iPhones with colorware still have the seam at the bottom separating antenna from casing?)

Fake or not, it still sucks because I don’t see a user-replaceable battery…

I doubt apple would make a high end product like the iphone out of plastic. Thats what I love about my iphone is its sturdy feel. Maybe they would do this on an iPhone nano. Although that is to big to be a nano.

I think it’s a fake. The case is so glossy that it has reflections, but those reflections stop at the camera lens. Also, the logo is white, but the photoshopper added the gray on the leaf. The gray part doesn’t match the rest of the reflection.

If it was real I think the lawyers at Apple might have wanted this taken down since Apple seems very tight when it comes to things being leaked.

Wow, that is a major improvement over the p.o.s that it is now. This one is more bearable to look at…and WHAT DO YA KNOW, 3G!!! It’s not just something used in real phones anymore. If the front can keep up the appearance of the back then it might finally be worth looking at seriously buying.
