HTC Touch Dual Comes to the US Sporting WM 6.1 and HSDPA

Coming this quarter to a Best Buy near you, the long-awaited US variant of the HTC Touch Dual is on display at this year’s CTIA Wireless conference. Pure hotness. As you can see from the live pics, the latest addition to HTC’s Touch family sports some nice upgrades compared to the Touch we all know and love. Of course the first and foremost improvement is the presence of the Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS. Beyond that is a vastly improved browser experience and several additions geared towards simplifying the light-user experience. A good example of this is the new start menu that can be seen in the gallery. Slide the handset open and this menu automatically appears, giving users instant access to a host of common operations such as New Email, New SMS and various scheduler functions. Another smart new feature rears its head when pairing bluetooth devices. Upon initialization of the pairing process, the Touch Dual will automatically attempt a variety of common bluetooth pass codes (ie 0000, 1111, 9999, etc). As most devices utilize one of these common codes by default, the Touch Dual will most often pair with devices without needing any user intervention. Additions like this make this device perfect for serious tech-savvy users and the not-so-tech-friendly types as well. This people, is a solid winner. The suretype keyboard a la Shadow is a true pleasure to handle and the US HSDPA seals the deal. Where do we sign?

Isn’t SureType a patent owned by RIM. How does this device’s keyboard differ from that of the Pearls?

Stay away until HTC fixes the graphics driver issue which they promised to do before March 31st!! the device is horribly slow … slower than some 2-3 year old phones running the same OS/software.

Of course that date has passed and no fix is available.

@Reader, while 3d acceleration (some 2d stuff like scrolling up and down a web page really fast), and video playing at 640×480 res is slow; the device as a whole is not slow. If you look around youtube you will see the speed of this device. Granted, the iPhone, yes, the iPhone is faster with it’s “touchflo” type of movements; the Touch/TOuch Dual/Touch Cruise are still quite speedy. And as with most any WM device, there are modified roms to take care of a lto of the other lag/speed issues. So with that, said, I for one am buying this device when it comes out, as well several other well informed buyers. This will be my first HTC phone and I can’t wait (regardless of missing graphics drivers for the qualcomm chipset). I would geta Touch Cruise but they are still phenomenally high in price for an unlocked version.

just got the touch dual and its pretty good… the only thing is the new processor doesnt have a graphics accelerator and HTC hasnt been releasing any driver updates for this so people who buy the new tytn, kaiser, touch, and even the glide will have this problem. The only thing good with this phone right now is the processor is pretty good.(Same parts as ATI) Using the same technology as the dualcore processors are out. Im OC mine to 580 safely cause of the dual cores. Cant wait for this driver to come out then ill be playing emulators with ease.(Not like i dont play the GBA NEs emulators smooth already). Im also running the Touch Diamond Interface on my Dual.
