BlackBerry 9000 delayed until July/August?

We’re not really sure where to go with this one. An August release for the BlackBerry 9000? We’ve heard it may actually be that far away. Let us also clarify: the BlackBerry 8xxx, the one we posted from Vodafone’s lineup, and the one that appeared on eBay is what we are referring to as the BlackBerry 9000 from here on in. We initially heard AT&T would have a 6-month exclusive on the device in the U.S., and that was to be released in late May, but more like June. New information provided to us has us believing the July / August release date might be accurate. You know how we roll over here at BGR, so take this as a rumor (obviously) and don’t sell your RIMM shares just yet. Remember that the BlackBerry Curve was released in late May last year, so this would put RIM well over the one-year mark (not counting the ridiculous incarnations of the 8300-series, 8800-series, and 8100-series) for a brand new device. What you think, people? Can you wait that long, or are you jumping ship if July / August is the real release date?

Seriously… what a joke this has been.

I picture RIM’s R&D department as one guy who works part-time working from home and has no desire to build anything new.

His thought process is… no, don’t come out with a new device, just take the old device, add 1 feature, and add change the numbers of the device.

Come on RIM, wow us with something sooner. And no more crap on AT&T.

    That was pretty good.

As to waiting, I have an 8700 with AT&T that I was thinking of converting to an 8830 with Sprint (which would cut $50 off my monthly bill). But I was waiting to see when a 9000 might appear before I got locked up for two years.

An August release date tells me to go ahead and contract with Sprint – who knows, August could turn into 2009.

Hell, Palm might have a new OS before the 9000 gets released – okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration :)

Let hope that’s not the final design. It looks as if it has the much hated keyboard of the 8800series. If that’s the 9000, they can keep it.

Must have read my mind. I just added my comments on the BBforum, asking when RIM will put it all together in one phone, instead of feeding it to us piece by piece. I love my 8300, but would like it better with 3G and WiFi too. EDGE where I am is slow and sometimes undependable.

Am I crazy, or is this thing a major step down from the Curve in the style department? 3G would be nice I suppose. But man, that keyboard is lacking…

I think if the 3G iPhone launches before the 9000 hits the streets, it’s gonna be a case of too little, too late for RIM…

Ok the king is back, thanks to all those that kept my throne nice and warm. RIM needs to ship this out before june. From the vodaphone spec sheet, on paper this is a monster (not an iphone killer) but a monster still. Lets hope that they get the 3G and WiFi radios right, we dont need another HTC Tilt on our hands. Also it needs to ship with 4.5 or better cause it is 08 and non html format email even on the corporate level is lame.

P.S – For you rap fans, I may have a suprise up for you guys tomorrow night from the Hovie show in NJ.

the keyboard is a big no-no for me but than again, i’ll have to look at and touch this phone, like every other phone i’ve bought, and decide if i want this or should i take the iPhone leap (which is only going to happen if 3G and larger capacity are made available).

my curve is great! but its time for me to move on. maybe nokia n96? hmmm….

No chance I can wait that long. I’m still waiting to get my first Blackberry, and it surely won’t be 2009 when I get it. Probably going to with the Sprint Curve in spite of the “no camera-phones” rule in most courtrooms.

When pics first surfaced of the 8800 and 8300 (indiglo and crimson or something?) I remember thinking that the 8800 was a million times prettier than the curve. However, I think most would agree now that the curve is a whole lot sexier. This gives me hope for the 9000 here, despite a not so attractive picture. I for one happen to like the 8800 keyboard… Or at least I don’t dislike it as many people do (and I can understand why). Anyway, we’ll see. I’d much rather stick with BB, but I can’t deny that if a 3G iphone popped up first, I’d have to do some serious thinking. However, while I don’t think apple will take 4 years between each carnation of the iphone, I do agree with jibi in regards to a june release. I just don’t see that happening. But what do I know. I just hope RIM puts out a sick berry, and it won’t be an issue.

I agree with you guys that I don’t like the keyboard design if that is it. All they had to do is put the curve keyboard and it would be perfect!!

Please rim, give us a curve keyboard, along with 3g/wifi/gps. That would be the perfect bb if the battery life is great.

It looks cheap to me, it looks like the chinese curve knock off’s..the CEPC whatever it was that ran windows mobile..I’m positive RIM has more in store then just this device, theirs pretty much no doubt that the above pictured device will show up in stores, BUT, with that being said, their also has to be better looking devices as well coming from the RIM farm..and I’m with jibi on the whole cost factor..Glad I get discounts :)

I would hang tight until april 2nd before jumping to any conclusions. Thats when the conference call to announce the much anticipated quarterly earnings is and perhaps a time frame or release date for a new device. If they dont mention it during that call, Id be pretty sure its not coming out by june.
