Update: Sony changes course

Remember that ridiculous $50 fee Sony was charging to remove crapware from their Vaio laptops? You know, the one we told you about this morning? It seems that Sony heard the rumbling of discontent from deep within the blogosphere. The company has just released the following statement:

“Starting March 22, Sony will offer Fresh Start free of charge. We want VAIO users to have the best experience possible with our PCs, and we believe Fresh Start will help ensure that happens right out-of-the-box.”

Not too shabby! You’ll still have to specify the "Fresh Start" option during the checkout process, but if you were in the market for a new Vaio, we’d highly suggest taking Sony up on their oh-so-kind offer. Now if only we could get such a timely response from several other companies out there…HTC, anybody?

Just get a Mac and be done with all viruses, malware, trojan horses etc. NO viruses on Mac OSX Leopard. Try Safari before you leave Microsoft forever. It does Windows now.

Hmm, I like Sony’s decision here, but does this mean they’re not charging you $50 to take off the crapware, or that they’re not saving you $50 by keeping the crapware?

Well i would have to agree with both Galvatron and RONNY, because i know from personal experience that it is very difficult to get a virus on a mac, but as a computer aficionado, i also know that it is always possible to get a virus on any operating system. MAC is a superior operating system however, no matter what you fools say!

And your point is what here?…there is nothing wrong with having a Windows machine over a Mac. I prefer to have my Windows XP because I can actually create shit on here that doesn’t tell me what to do every step.

@ Joeylang and the other Mac users who don’t get it:

It’s Mac… short for Macintosh. MAC in the computer industry is an acronym for Media Access Control.

Furthermore, Mac is not a superior operating system because Macs are models of PCs (Personal Computers) consisting of Intel designed CPUs and motherboard chipsets running the Apple OS-X operating system.

OS-X can indeed be hacked and ran on non-Apple hardware but Apple chooses to be a niche player and limits the operating system to Apple Macintoshes only.

Learn to differentiate between the operating system and the hardware.

Um it should be ” run” on non-apple hardware. Before casting stones at others, perhaps you should grasp verb tenses in the English language. Might serve you better in your attempt to act like a condescending a$$. As opposed to an ignorant condescending a$$

    @ notanapplehonk:

So you’re going to nitpick my English and compare it to the use of MAC vs Mac and Operating system vs hardware .

BTW, I’m still not sure it should be “run” since I used “hacked”. “Ran” is past tense and so is “hacked”. Although the whole sentence probably should have been either all past tense.

Meh. Potatoe, potato. Just stop being a pretentious a$$ Most everyone here knows the difference between MAC and Mac. Its like running to a college football forum telling the posters that Cover 2 isn’t covering the “twins” with a condom but is a pass coverage. They all would know it already. But they wouldn’t make it sound like they’re entering unchartered water with their proclamations.
