T-Mobile BlackBerry 8120 & 8820 Roll Out Details and Schedule

T-Mobile customers here in the US can finally breathe a sigh of relief. See that? That’s the light at the end of the tunnel. You might have already read about the Pearl 8120 hitting shelves on April 14th and that the 8820 will drop as soon as this coming Monday. Did anyone catch the addition of video recording on the 8120 specs though? Mmmm… Software upgrade.

No, Curve rocks! The are very similar spec wise….I am biased though and love my Curve. 8820 is nice but I would never consider it an upgrade from the Curve. Just by a bluetooth GPS puck for $70 from several online stores selling them.

I actually liked the 8800, so Im assuming the 8820 has the same radio. I had a way better signal with my 8800 than i ever have with my 8320. But, I did like the curve’s keyboard better than the bunched up keys on the 8800. That said, I will probably still buy an 8820 when it comes out because of the better radio.

Is it me, or is the wait for the OS 4.5 upgrade leaning a bit towards the ridiculous side of things right now?

    Hmmm,

I am a t-mo customer who’s contract is about to expire. I wonder how I can extort a free pearl 8120. Or maybe even get them to give me a free curve - since that will be less popular once these two guys come out.

Video recording is not news. All Pearl-2’s (OS 4.3.x) have had it.

Good luck Yonah. These 2 devices aren’t going to affect the 8320 popularity at all.

I know TMo has the WiFi calling plans and on the spec sheet it says WiFi for calling. Will you be able to browse on WiFi as well? I would assume so but you never know anymore.

Opera mini mobile. It’s clunky but better than the native blackberry browser on my 1st gen Curve (AT&T (I know, AT&T sucks)). Anyone know of a mobile browser compatuble with blackberry that’s better than the Opera browser?

@fenrisswolf, but this isn’t the first time the 8120 has launched on a carrier. It launched last year in Europe and a week ago on AT&T. The 8130 launched on Verizon and Sprint in Q4 last year. All of these had video recording functionality. So just because it wasn’t on the 8100 doesn’t mean that video recording will be new as of next month. Very much the contrary.

The two advantages of the 8820 compared to the 8320 and 8120 are: (1) Bigger battery, which is important given the power consumption of the WiFi chip and (2) a proper GPS chip, which also consumes a lot of power when it’s turned on. For these two reasons, the 8820 should be considered the superior device. The 8820 does however have a 2.5mm headset jack, unlike the 3.5mm jack on the 8120 and 8320. The 8820 also lacks a camera, for those who care.

I have have the pearl 8100. I just bought it used from a friend for $30! I really love it but the keys are rather bunched up and tricky to get use to. But I’m getting there. The sure type is a royal pain and the multi-tao is okay but also a bit cumbersome! I miss the old full qwerty keypad on my now ancient and deactivated Nextel 7520! LOL! Anybody remember that model? Anyways, I do love the speed and features of the 8100, but no video is a drag! Spoiled lot aren’t we? LOL! Heck even my Dolce Gabbana V3i had video! And that is now ancient too! Moore’ Law in effect! So I have yet another friend who has a brand new 8820(?) “limited edition” which is only 2 months old and barely used! She has all the stuff and the box it came in! She is a gadget junkie like me! But she needs the $ bad! It has a latex rubber skin/case that she bought 4it too! Does that have video? I offered her 200 since T-mobile will sell me one online with a 2year upgrade for 250! But why bother? Sounds like a no-brainer 2 me! Chick is cute too! That was the blackberry I originally wanted but could not afford! What should I do guys? She will probably take less if I flash some cash at her! She works in a coffee shop I frequently visit!

PS. I saw the unit. Looks clean and brand new! Works fine! What should I do?
