Verizon triumphs in the 700mhz auction
Have you been waiting with bated breath for the results of the 700mh FCC spectrum auction? The dead silence is over. Reuters has announced that Verizon Wireless is the new owner of the 700mhz spectrum, also known as the "C" block. The company’s offer of $4.74 billion was accepted by the FCC, as the regulatory body moves to liquidate a large portion of the spectrum that has been used by analog television. With the upcoming move to all-digital broadcasting, the FCC had a bit of excess spectrum to get rid of. The auction has been hotly contested, and the Verizon win, which is actually a joint venture between Verizon and Vodafone, ensures that the 2nd largest American carrier will have significant room to grow in the coming years.

Just when I thought I was out… they pull me back in.
Verizon Wireless, masters of making enough vague promises/transactions to make want to continue being their customer.
Isn’t that something I said on my third movie?
Verizon wins!!!! Screw AT&T to hell!!!!
Let the FCC investigations begin!
Woo Hoo? IDK is this a good good or a not so good good win for the cell industry?
They’d sit on this till the cows come in. HORIZON will screw u and lock everything down. Just more money they pissed away that will be paid back through its subscribers. All of the execs are laughing while on there yachts and excursions paid for by its loyal dumb ass advertisements and the subscriptions of the people that are into being controlled
Let it be known that AT&T already had 700 MHz with the aquisition of Aloha communications. AT&T’s 700 MHz spectrum will cover 100 percent of the top 200 markets. Combined with the spectrum previously purchased in the AWS auction, AT&T will have quality spectrum available for new services covering 95 percent of the U.S. population. So settle down Verizon Wireless…your slogan should be “VZW…Your Parents Cell phone carrier”.
Wow, it looks like there’s a lot of sour consumers out there. I don’t care what anyone says, Verizon leads the industry in so many different aspects of wireless communications. Some of you complain about cost but what do you get when you pay little money for service?? You get little outcome. I’d rather pay more and be guaranteed better service.
Like Zhooligan said “Some of you complain about cost but what do you get when you pay little money for service?? You get little outcome. I’d rather pay more and be guaranteed better service.”
Very true, I am a Verizon agent so of course you all know where my allegiance lies, but I have also been an AT&T Customer for 4 years and a sprint customer for 2 (never bothered with t-mobile).
I understand AT&T has already achieved 700 MHz but where is the utilization of it? I say give VZW a chance to prove themselves, mainly because I see this step in Verizons path to be a huge leap in the next year. You’re going to start seeing it utilized far greater then any other carrier. So let Verizon have a chance to use what they just purchased, before you flame them by accusing corporate execs for making more money than you.
Lets not be short sited people
