Scheduled BlackBerry Outage; At Least They Told us This Time
Get your backup handsets ready people, unless everything goes perfectly there’s a good chance that BlackBerry service is going to be down when you wake up tomorrow morning. The outage is scheduled for 2:00am – 6:00am tomorrow morning but these things rarely go as planned. Highlights from the note:
Description: Database upgrade for all North American subscribers in the following locations: The Americas
Change Window Start Date and Time: 03/22/08 06:00:00 (GMT) Change Window End Date and Time: 03/22/08 10:00:00 (GMT) Downtime Duration: 4 hour(s) and 0 minute(s)
Impact: BlackBerry subscribers may be unable to send or receive messages during the maintenance.
Subscribers may also be unable to register their device, roam in another location, or use other services such as Internet browsing.
BlackBerry Internet Service subscribers may be unable to use the BlackBerry Internet Service web site or perform activities such as creating new accounts, accessing their Internet mailbox, integrating third-party email accounts, or viewing email attachments during the maintenance.
BlackBerry Enterprise Servers may be unable to connect to the BlackBerry Infrastructure during the maintenance.

The annoucement suggests that the temporary outage is scheduled for the 22nd. This to me means Saturday morning, not tomorrow like this article is telling us.
James, you are correct, that would be Saturday morning not Friday morning. They wouldn’t DARE do a planned outage on a business day lol!!!

Anyone else having problems for the past week with the BB proxies being down for hours at a time? Network connectionity was still up as mail was delivered and I could browse with Opera (it doesn’t use BB’s proxies).

Yes, but only with Verizon. My Cingular and Sprint/Nextel Blackberries worked fine.

I’m already having the outage. Since Thursday night. I got my first Blackberry in January, and this is the third outage. I’m thinking of trading it in, and I’ll never get another. Nifty device, but it’s too useless, too ofen.
Just unclear on one thing… Voice service should still be available correct? Just data is going down?

Voice service would be fine and really it’s a saturday for a couple hours at like 2am! Really what loser needs their email at 2am?!
Well we have users in our local govt. agency that show up for work at 3am believe it or not. We also have public safety and police officers. Many of whom rely on this. So there are differnet scenarios and different business’ who thrive off of this stuff. Not everyone uses it just to find a date on CriagsList buddy.
Is this like a monthly thing now for Blackberrys?
