Refurbished iPhones Now Available from AT&T

Remember last month when we told you that AT&T would be offering refurbishediPhones at a nice discount? Done deal. The 4 GB model has yet to surface but visitors to AT&T’s site or select AT&T brick and morter stores will now find the refurbished 8 GB model at the $250 price point that we noted in our last post. Also, 2-day priority shipping is free online. If you were on the fence before it’ll be hard to pass up a $150 discount, so stop trying to fight it. The handsets can be purchased in person or from the online shop sans-activation so no worries for those hoping to snag one as a gift. Don’t expect these puppies to last long though so you better get a move on. Oh, and it’s our understanding that they’re in slightly better shape than the iPhone pictured above.

Correction: They will ship it to you without activation but the Website clearly says “2 year contract and activation required” and you can choose your plan after you receive phone

Well AT&T has to do something like that. They aren’t making any money off the iPhone thanks to how much profit Apple is taking from them as part of their contract. Even the reps don’t like pushing it because they make about 1/6th the amount on selling an iPhone in comparison to any other PDA.

Why hasn’t BGR ever posted that AT&T reps were FORCED to sell the iPhone about a month back as part of their employment with AT&T because Apple got upset that reps were recommending BlackBerry a majority of the time when they did a mystery shop on AT&T? Don’t believe me? Call an AT&T store and ask them if they have to recommend the iPhone first.

you really want people to feel sorry for AT&T? get a grip. employees get paid either way, so your point is that poor little AT&T was forced into the deal? again get a grip, this has been endlessly argued and guess what, its business.

Only if at&t didn’t suck this would be a somewhat of a decent deal.

just ordered one. it looks like $250 was the magic number for me. Can anyone recomend a link detailing how to jailbreak this phone when I get it on thursday? Still a little confused about the activation/service contract scare tactics att/apple use.

Does an ipone need to be activated to be jailbroken, ie. do you need to have a service contract and then break it?

    thanks

Knowing att you’d probably get one that looks like the picture. But $50 more off and with 3G and hell, even I’d get one.

I’d only get an iPhone if I could do the following:

    1) Push a latch and replace the battery myself.
    2) Install 3rd party apps without going through iTunes and the Apple police (i.e WinMobile cab files).
    3) Use it for GPS navigation (onboard GPS reciever or external… doesn’t matter). I need maps stored on the device, not streamed over the air as needed. I’m more likely to need GPS when I don’t have a cellular signal.

Yeah… you can do #2 by jailbreaking, but last I checked that voids your warranty.

I hope Apple gets with the program with the 3G iPhone.
