Dropbox makes storage and data syncing a breeze
Dropbox, a new service sparked by a couple of YCombinator graduates, aims to bring online storage and seamless data sync services to the general public. Essentially functioning as a glorified, free/low cost alternative to services like Apple’s .Mac offering, Dropbox places an always-on link to your online storage space directly onto your computer’s desktop. Any file revisions are immediately pushed to the server, making it a handy tool for remote collaboration. You can share files with friends and coworkers, and Dropbox will work well on both Macs and PCs. It launched yesterday in limited beta, and is currently providing 5 GBs of online space for free to beta testers. Future releases will bring a pay-per-use subscription service, but given the ease of use and simple interface, we’re inclined to think that a this might be worth a modest monthly investment.

Looks pretty cool – hopefully I will make the beta list – but the thought of putting my data on some start-up’s server is a little unnerving.
Maybe I will just start with photos if I get the chance.
