T-Mobile BlackBerry 8820 hitting corporate channels?

Consider this one unsubstantiated for the time being, but the time frame seems about right to us. A user over at Pinstack is reporting that his T-Mobile corporate rep furnished him with a brand spanking new BlackBerry 8820 yesterday. The device, which was shipped in black, reportedly came complete with OS version 4.2.2.193, Platform 2.5.0.43. Alas, no 4.5 to be found, but that’s no real surprise. What isn’t clear yet is how well the 8820 functions with T-Mobile Hotspot@Home service. Pricing also wasn’t revealed. This could be an elaborate hoax, but T-Mobile needs to start shipping the devices at some point, and no time like the present right?

why doesn’t tmo just tell people when the 8820 is coming out, what’s the big secret? I have called Tmo a couple times about the 8820’s release and their reps don’t have a clue. Come on, get real Tmo.

I have hotpsot at home with my curve and the service sucks. The phone gets totally confused when there is both wifi and cell service. It answer one way then tries to switch and cuts the call off. If t-mo reached inside my building I’d drop the service in a second. The phone is otherwise amazing.

From the seminar I attended last week Thursday, the 8820 should be out this week, 8120 sometime in April. They did mention that the 8820 would ship with a 4.2.2.XXX OS on it, getting an update to 4.3.XXX around the time the 8120 releases. OS 4.5 won’t be until late spring or early summer.

Response to Chris: I have had to monkey around with my @Home settings (also have the Curve) and have been able to fix all my issues with the helpful support of some T-Mo reps. Did you get the latest firmware for your Router (Linksys or D-Link?) Do you have the latest RIM OS on your phone? I have been overall very happy with my Curve and @Home (a.k.a. Talk Forever).

The curve has issues with strict wpa implementations. The apple airport, curve, and hotspot at home do not play well together.

Gotta be a hoax. OS 4.2.2 is missing too much critical to PEARL2 hardware support. Just my $.02.

I am an employee aswell but I don’t think it is a hoax. Yes rndy the phone isn’t availe for sale until the 24th but that’s not to say the phones arnt available . The phone had a a inital release date of March 5th and was most likly pushed back to the 24 due to inventory issues.such as not enough units shipped out are a mistake with the order such the phone s not being the correct collor which cold explain why the reported phone was black and not blue. There is a very g chance that some where shipped out and that an eager sale agent who wanting to cash on the commision sold the phone.

to Sophie I don’t think the 8820 will have any affect on curves price. The curve is a consumer phone when the 8820 is a corporate phone. The price of the curve is already subsudized and

I loved my 8820 but no camera was a huge deal breaker for me. I wanted to get a Curve from T-MO but they were not subsidizing it NEARLY enough so AT&T which is not the best in my area won out. This would be a boon for T-mo because it would help to better associate them with the business market that some people feel they don’t address enough in their phone arsenal.
