9″ Asus Eee PC gets price, release date
The Asus Eee has been a darling of the tech world for the past several months, impressing onlookers with a relatively powerful feature-packed machine built into a tiny, cost effective package. Not content to rest on their current wave of success, Asus has decided to push an updated machine out the door with record speed. The new Asus Eee PC 900 sports a 9" screen and comes equipped with either 12 GB of onboard storage and Windows XP, or 12-20 GB of storage and a pre-installed Linux build. The new machines will start at $499, and should be available to the general public beginning late next month. Anyone excited enough to take the plunge?

What is the screen resolution on on the 9in eee? The resolution was the biggest factor holding me back before on the 7in version.

The resolution is 1024X600.
I wish the date would get set in stone. I’m looking to buy one in the next couple weeks and would be willing to wait to the end of April but not the end of May.

I held off on the 7″ knowing that one with a slightly bigger screen and windows preloaded was coming.. I will probably get one depending on when it ever releases.

this is really what the initial eee should have been and it should cost 300-400 dollars. 500 and up is pushing it out of fun lil purchase territory for many including me. Gimme a 9 inch eee for 350 and I’m in for sure.

I’m really interested in the 9 inch since my plans with buying an Asus would be to take notes in class. With the bigger screen & more memory will the dementions of the unit be the same? aka did they just fit a larger screen in? And does it change the 2 lb wieght?

I am buying 30 of these as soon as they release to use as a new mobile lab for the school I am the Tech Director of. I bought a 7″ one as a test and the kids love it.
I’d love it if they put a get a more enterprise version of linux on. I will be probably installing ubuntu or giving up some laptops and install xp pro. I have not decided yet.

I’m waiting and watching. I plan to get one for the kids — primarily for my daughter who will be taking comp sci courses next year (high school). If the 9″ comes down in price by the end of June it would make a great graduation gift.
