Free Palm Centro with 2-year Sprint Contract

So maybe Sprint’s unlimited plans aren’t enough of an incentive to make the leap. Maybe you need that little something extra as a kick in the pants before you sign the next two years of your mobile life away. Well if you’re a fan of Palm smartphones, we may have just the thing for you. Thanks to wirefly.com, new Sprint customers can get their hands on an Onyx Black Palm Centro for free with free shipping. No annoying rebates to deal with, no minimum plan requirements, just free. Normally $99 after a $50 rebate with a 2-year contract on Sprint, the Palm Centro is a nice smartphone option if Palm is your thing. It can handle all the basics and is compatible with all of the Sprint goodies that you might be eying. EVDO, Sprint TV, navigation, etc. The handset itself sports a full qwerty and 65K touchscreen, Palm OS 5.4.9 and a 1.3 megapixel camera. No, the Centro won’t be dropping any jaws but if you need a compact smartphone that can handle the basics in terms of business and pleasure then this little guy might just be your bag.

A deal is one thing but wirefly is garbage. For every customer that gets this deal another customer is out there being charged some random fee for changing their plan or changing their phone number. Hands up everyone who has been burned by wirefly or their dubious parent company inphonic.

Man, who thought it would be a good idea to make the whole phone black except for that strip of white for the buttons? Between this and the pea soup green buttons on that other Centro, I’m starting to wonder if Palm has piles of mis-colored buttons and a burning desire to get rid of them. =p

lol man those things are EVERYWHERE here. I think alot of the people that buy them are thinking they are getting a true smartphone. Consequently, I have also seen quite a few people returning them too! Oh & the one that AT&T has with the green keys is the BEST looking of all the Colours out!! This black one is FUGLY!!

FyrreStarrter: What is it, exactly, that makes the Centro NOT a “true smartphone”?

It is literally just a smaller Treo for a third the price. I think that makes it a pretty good deal.

I know a lot of people don’t like Palm OS, but to go so far as to say that it isn’t a smartphone is a bit…extreme, no? It’s dated, sure, but it can still run third party apps, etc…

Personally, I think Palm OS and the Centro was a perfect choice for my first smartphone. I just didn’t want all the hassles of Windows Mobile - who wants to worry about memory management on their phone? I would have gone with a BlackBerry Pearl, but I was uneasy about the SureType keyboard, and I don’t like trackballs. I much prefer the Centro’s touchscreen. Oh, and the Centro is much cheaper (as is my monthly bill).

So even if all of you HTC/WinMo fans can’t possibly comprehend how anyone could possibly like Palm, they do have their place in the market. Is the Centro a last-ditch effort to save Palm? Maybe. Will it work? Maybe not. Is it a bad phone because of this? No.

Hmmmmm….Think Firefly paid for an ad here?
By-the-way…I think the Centro is a great phone for the money…even at the $99.99 price.

People praise the Treo 755p because it is easier to use versus its windows cousin. The Centro is simply a smaller version, with pretty much the same functionality for much less. It is a very good deal. And with the plethora of 3rd party software, one can play music, balance a check book, keep a calendar, email, IM, browse with broadband speed, get somewhere with google maps. There are many more things one can do with the Centro, than with the iPhone. Flashy it aint. But who cares for pizazz; it delivers!
