This Week’s “Apple Tuesday” Brings New MacBooks and MacBook Pros

Well, we were half right. This morning’s entirely expected Apple Store downtime was resolved just after 8:30am EST. When the site came back up, some nice goodies came up with it.

Updated MacBooks:

  • 2.1GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 1GB memory / 120GB hard drive / Combo drive: $1099
  • 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 2GB memory / 160GB hard drive / Double-layer SuperDrive: $1299
  • 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 2GB memory / 250GB hard drive / Double-layer SuperDrive: $1499

The lesser two options come in a white case, while the top MacBook comes in black. All models feature the 13" display and pack Intel’s new Core 2 Duo Penryn processors.

Updated MacBook Pros:

  • 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 2GB memory / 200GB hard drive / 15" display: $1999
  • 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 2GB memory / 250GB hard drive / 15" display: $2599
  • 2.5GHz Intel Core 2 Duo / 2GB memory / 250GB hard drive / 17" display: $2799

All MacBook Pro models pack Double-layer SuperDrives and an NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT graphics card with 256MB on the $1999 model and 512MB on the other two models. All new MacBook Pros also feature Intel’s new Core 2 Duo Penryn processors and updated trackpads with multi-touch gesture support.

bought 15″ mbp last week and am glad to see not that much got changed. gestures and penryn are not enough for me to return it and get the new one. now the 512mb is tough but im not a gamer so will continue to enjoy my mbp.

best notebook i have owned so far.

Why can’t the mb pro come out in black like the high end mb? Next year a new design? I’ll wait.

JohnJ: Erm, comparing the MacBook to an equivalent Dell, the MacBook is (slightly) cheaper. So, unless you consider Dell to be “way too expensive!!!”…

Although the MacBook really is the deal, here. The 15″ MBP doesn’t offer much above the $1,499 (or even $1,299) MacBooks, except a graphics card, an aluminum enclosure, an illuminated keyboard, and a multi-touch trackpad (and, when compared to the BlackBook, a *smaller* hard drive). I think all that (plus, obviously, the larger, sharper, and more environmentally-friendly display) *might* be worth the $500 premium, but aren’t higher-end models supposed to give you the *most* bang for your buck?
