Blackberry email goes down…again

This is getting a little bit ridiculous, folks. We here at BGR have trouble putting our Blackberries down. Seriously. It’s a problem. That said, we’re getting a little bit frustrated with RIM following the 3rd service interruption in 9 months, and the second in a week. It’s poor form. Following the notorious blackout last year, RIM promised that it would never happen again. Hollow promises, as around 80% of all Berry devices in the continental US have been affected by a service outage that began around 3 am this morning. No carrier has been spared, with reports of crippled devices from Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, Nextel, and Sprint. It seems that some users are finally getting back up online, but there’s been no official word from RIM regarding a projected time of resolution. Forgive us, but we’re beginning to question the reliability of our beloved BlackBerries. So sad, they’ve turned into Sidekicks.

T-Mobile here in CT is up and down – with BIS email coming through in spurts.

Near as I can tell it has sporadically been this way since my Blackberry turned on at 4:45am this morning.

ATT here in Miami…no problems. Emails received at 2:34am, 3:01am, about 7 more between 3am and 4am, and the flood gates opened up after 5:30am.

This appeared to have only affected BIS (Blackberry Internet Service) users. In otherwords, those who *DO NOT* have their BlackBerrys connected to Blackberry Enterprise Servers that individual corporations run. This meant no access to your POP and IMAP accounts but the corporate users were just find and dandy.

I have BIS as do many of my employees around the country. Not one of us is missing any emails at all. FL, IL, CT, CA, TX, all seem to be working well.

    I’m in Brooklyn, NY
Haven’t had normal Berry.on ATT service in a week.

Starting last Wed, svs down, erery day since, emails take 1 min (used to be 15 seconds) to 2 hours.

Where the unreliable service bad enough, the “berry dump” happense a few times a day; a flush of a mass of emails, most not important mass mails, some time critical personal ones.

Hard to run a business like this.

Perhaps its time for the Nextell walkie-talkies to make a comeback from the car service/livery cab genre?

I receive outage notifications from all of the major carriers. Sprint and Verizon notification referenced hosted email and BIS services. While AT&T’s noted account activations, deactivation, or changes. Since have received note from Sprint that service is back up after 3 hours and 20 minutes and that server reboot fixed issue. AT&T update still has service down with RIM engineers working on a fix.

Get over yourselves people. You lost your e-mail, some people in the world lost a life, a loved one, or missed a meal. It’s time to have some perspective. And yes, I do have a Blackberry Curve.

    Josh,
I know that BB’s have the BEST e-mail service around but still you could borrow the Tilt or the TyTN II from BG because it’s got the best e-mail of any WinMo phone I’ve ever used.

For a while I wanted to junk the Treo… but now with IMAP purring along on Sprint EVDO in NY I’ve apologized to the lil guy and plan to keep him! I carry a Berry for work too and boy have the tables been turned. For $15 and with a little convincing – less than that the price and service cant be beat!
