AT&T joins the club, offers unlimited calling plan
The times, they are a’changing. Following close on the heels of both Verizon and Sprint, AT&T has just announced that they will be offering an unlimited calling option in short order. Insofar as we can tell, the $99 plan offers unlimited voice minutes, but everything else, including SMS and data use, will cost you. As an added caveat, it will only be available to dumb phone users when it drops on the 22nd of February, so all you PDA/Smartphone guys can seek elsewhere. That said, unlimited voice is a good thing. Any bets on how long it’s going to take T-mobile to join in the fun?

Nice. Dumb phone users. Knew this was coming though.

Actually this DOES include PDA, Blackberry’s & iPhones. What at&t is saying the press release is that the data add-on for standard phones “can choose a data plan such as $5 for 200 text, picture, video and instant messages or $35 for unlimited messaging and MEdia Net access.” This has nothing to do with the unlimited voice plan.

Wow sorry for not speaking English in my last comment. Anyway, the $99 voice can be used with ANY phone but obviously the data charges for a Blackberry, PDA or iPhone will be higher than the example they are using in the press release for “standard phones.”

The unlimited calling will be available but the data rate plans they state will not be. Your regular pda plans still apply.

The plan will be open to all wireless devices. The * pertains to the text and data plans that are only available on the standard phones

In a way, T-Mobile has had a version of this plan ever since they introduced My Faves in 2006. Unlimited calling to your Fave 5. I have heard that soon T-Mobile will be expanding My Faves to include options with more than 5 numbers.

“In a way, T-Mobile has had a version of this plan ever since they introduced My Faves in 2006. Unlimited calling to your Fave 5……”
Really? Are you serious?? That is like saying AT&T and Verizon has always had that because of unlimted mobile to mobile! This is ture unlimited to ANYONE. Not just 5, 10 or 20 that is rumored, BIG DIFFRENCE.

Sure as heck would have been nice to see follow but drop the rate or add something. Seems there always playing catchup, never the leaders, or go getters.
Pathetic

Like always… T-MO will have a unlimited flat rate by the middle of the year…
I am vacationing in Puerto Rico… AT&T already has this plan since years ago… Likewise Verizon (now Claro)… T-Mobile is gonna have to keep the Sun-Com plans in order to be competitive… Example… In Puerto Rico Sun-Com has 545 anytime minutes and unlimited incoming calls for a freakin $9.99 a month!!! Plus free activation… Compete with that… Anyone…

u cant compare suncom to at&t or sprint in puertorico. suncom is cheap because their service is cheap and spotty sometimes unreliable vs at&t being the dominant signal carrier and sprint right behind them

He said “In a way.” He didnt say it was the same. I have to agree with him. To use mobile to mobile as an example is poor at best. That is within a network. This is something Alltel and Tmo have had for quite some time. It in fact was the only reason I switched to Tmo. I call about 4 people outside Tmo a ridiculous amount. In addition I picked up the mobile to mobile for 7 bucks I think. I saved tons of money by doing this. So it essentially is an unlimited plan for me as I can call the people I primarily talk to unlimited amounts. You are right it is different, but to say it is a big difference is ludicrous. With this unlimited plan I can call Pizza Hut for 2000 minutes a month. Who gives a ****, will I actually do that? I am not tryin to pick a fight, just saying the concept of unlimited calling to users has not a new idea. With all that being said, I do like the coverage of at&t more so I may be switching back dependent on what these plans look like in detail. Being a BB user it may be best to stick it out with Tmo for awhile. Regards

Do you see? Do you SEE??? Att screws somebody somehow every time.
Does this mean the iPhone’s included?
After all, it sure as hell isn’t a smartphone.

AT&T sucks though, especially in Chicago, dropped calls all day, the only thing they have going for them is the iPhone.
