Apple Drops Price on 1 GB iPod Shuffle; 2 GB Model Coming Soon
Every time the Apple Store goes down, an angel gets its wings. Ok, maybe that’s not entirely true, but if it was true there would be a whole lot of newly-winged angels these days. The Apple Store seems to drop offline every Tuesday lately and once it comes back up, we have something new to talk about. This week, it’s a $30 price slash on the iPod Shuffle. The current model of the Shuffle holds 1 GB of music and is now available for a pretty reasonable $49. Later this month, Apple will also be releasing a 2 GB version that will be available for $69; $10 less than the old 1 GB price point. The iPod Shuffle is hardly an audiophile’s dream, but it makes a great little gift for that person you just don’t really care about. You know, the annoying friend that you have to buy a decent gift for because your girlfriend will never hear the end of it if you don’t? Plus it’s nice and tiny so when he or she loses it, your girlfriend can give them plenty of grief about it and you get a brief but enjoyable moment of devious satisfaction.

And the new 2GB model is nice - capacity really doesn’t matter as much on a model that’s not designed to hold all of your music anyway, but for just twenty dollars extra I’m sure they’ll get plenty of takers.
I’m actually thinking about returning the iPod nano I bought and just picking up an iPod shuffle instead. I’ve never really been in the habit of listening to music on the go - I much prefer listening to music at home, through real speakers - but I mainly bought the iPod nano for working out. I was planning on buying the Nike+iPod kit, and maybe that Nike+ watch too, so that I could control my iPod nano without getting it sweaty when running. But for less than the price of just that watch, I could now get an iPod nano that I could just clip onto my clothes when running and I wouldn’t really care if it got sweaty or not.
Plus, I found out that House isn’t on iTunes. That was the other big reason I bought an iPod nano - I could buy House episodes and watch them, because I have an evening class on Tuesdays when, House is broadcast. But House isn’t on iTunes, so I just went and bought the DVD sets (now on sale at Target for $25 each!) and while I suppose I could HandBrake them all to my iPod, I’m not sure if it’s worth all the trouble just to be able to watch them on a two inch screen.
Plus, the iPod shuffle comes in purple.
So yeah…I think I might return my iPod nano and use the money to buy an iPod shuffle and a digital camera instead. But I’m not sure…
