New Xperia X1 Pics Leaked; Windows Mobile 6.1 and More!
The more we find out about Sony Ericsson’s upcoming X1 under the new Xperia line, the more of a beast this device is shaping up to be. Seriously, what doesn’t it have? A slew of new pics have emerged on a Hungarian blog and they go a great distance to answer the questions that bloggers all over the internet have been asking this week. Mobile World Congress attendees were pretty pissed that X1 demos were extremely limited. Well, the cause behind Sony Ericsson’s secretiveness is now crystal clear; the X1 is running Windows Mobile 6.1. We’ve been telling you about 6.1 for a while now and we even gave you a great walkthrough back in December. The updated version of Windows Mobile still isn’t official however, and so it stands to reason that Sony Ericsson had to be very careful about what they revealed. Let’s look at a quick rundown of what these freshly leaked pics confirm:
- The X1 is pure fire
- Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional OS
- Qualcomm 7200A CPU running at 528 MHz
- 128MB of RAM
- VGA 800 x 480 display resolution
- 3.2 megapixel camera with no flash (wtf?!)
- Beefy 1500 mAh battery
The metal case, the QWERTY that slides out at a slight curve, spot-on specs and a battery that can handle it all… This is one sexy mofo. Pricing on this badboy should be pretty high but it really looks like Sony Ericsson hit a home run.
Finally a WM phone that I can go back to with no regrets leaving the iPhone! The Kaiser was no huge improvement over the tytn, Microsoft needed a killer phone to put WM on the map and it looks like Sony/HTC has just the solution.
Hopefully the necessary fees were invested to get proper drivers support from Qualcomm, we dont need another HTC Qualcomm problem, especially with a 800 x 480 screen.

Wow, the X1 might just be what I was looking for!
I refrained from buying any of those because of the following flaws:
- HTC TyTN II: not-so-practical keyboard, small screen, looks bulky
- E-TEN Glofiish M800: sensitive keys, 64MB memory, display lags
- SAMSUNG SGH-F700: no GPS, no Wifi, 1000mAh battery
Let’s hope that the huge resolution of the X1 screen will not tax the battery life too much or cause the user interface to lag.

Hmmm… On the photos you linked to, there’s what appears to be a flash LED next to the camera lens!
Perhaps the flash didn’t fire on when used on this demo unit, but it sure looks like there’s a flash.

tnkgrl is right, if you go back to the site hosting the pics, on the shot with the battery and cover out you can see what looks to be flash bulb on to the left of the camera lens.
Must be the flash for the phone as the look of it resembles very closely to other phone flash units.

Apart from the 3.2Mp camera and Photo light, whatever the heck that is, hopefully it is an LED flash. It’s definitely on my shopping list. SE say the Experia range is aimed at the Experienced user, damn straight!

Somebody had previously asked (I don’t know if it was on a previously post of this phone or on Engadget) but some asked if this phone’s screen was glass (like the iPhone) or still kinda squishy like the standard HTC touch faces. This looks like the latter and I was hoping for the former.

Although the P5i is a great concept phone, and so far that’s what it is. The design and style of the X1 have it for me. Never been a big fan of P series from SE, the form factor and design/size is just too big.
I’m hoping to see the real P5i, IF it is actually real.

According to the second picture, seems the memory slot is under the battery. If this is the final design, it will be not convenient.

I find it interesting that it sports a Qualcomm chipset. Aren’t they in heavy litigation with Broadcom where the judge ruled that Qualcomm stole Ip from Broadcom concerning battery life and these devices will be banned from getting to US shores?

The WM 6.1 walkthrough BGR posted in december was for WM 6.1 Standard, doesn’t this phone run WM 6.1 Professional, and aren’t there no UI changed to WM 6.1 professional from 6.0?

So it’s running on Qualcomm’s next-gen 7200-X chip which has even better 2D/3D acceleration.
Maybe this is called 7200-1.0 and everything else was just ALPHA.

In one of the many videos that came out of Barcelona, a SE rep specificaly mentioned that the Xperia had 3D acceleration from ATI. The video drivers that everybody is so worried about should be included. I would also add that the MSM7200a is the 65nm version of the MSM7200 so you get the speed boost from 400MHz to 528Mhz and you should also get better battery life.
