HTC fails to deliver the Shift yet again

You might have read about the HTC Shift finally being available "immediately" on Orange UK and Movistar in Spain a couple days ago. Guess what? It isn’t. Not in stock, not available for order, not in stores, not in anyone’s hands — nothing. I’ve dreamt about the HTC Shift since I saw the first photo of it, and sometimes you just wait for something you really want. Not anymore. I’m done. Completely finished with this total crap. I know that’s harsh, I do. But you don’t announce, re-announce, then announce and announce availability again and again, over and over. That’s not what a high class company does. That’s what a no-name sleazy company who has nothing but vaporware does to try and lure in people. So that’s it. No more Shift for me. I just have to admit to myself that it would have sucked anyway. Crap specs for a now-2008 device and extremely overpriced. HTC won’t sell any of these either. Why? Because of what I just said; crap specs, and a price 3x what it should be. So the question for the readers is, what would you get instead of the Shift now? I’m open to suggestions and cost doesn’t matter.

@ S
Why are you making suggestions about policies and leadership if” This post is only about the HTC Shift” as you say?
You are correct that we should never try to turn this into a political forum but I have to wonder why BG placed that picture on the SHift in the first place. Was it to draw attention to the issue or to make fun of homeless people.

Troy - are you an idiot or just incredibly stupid? My guess is, both.
I don’t have to watch CNN to know what is happening in my city - I LIVE HERE!
But of course, you’ve seen it on TV - so you’re an expert.

Last time I checked I was neither. But please explain the difference between the two, I’m always willing to learn new things. Might want to make sure you have your glasses on next time you step outside.

I’m looking at getting the LG KS20, tied to a full-sized (folding) keyboard. (Bluetooth? probably.)
At my old workplace they supplied me with a Palm m500 (with folding keyboard), which worked like a champ for over 6 years. I found the form factor just right. (For me, thumbboards = miskeying and small keyboards = no touch-typing; OK for short emails but useless for long meeting minutes.) This combo allowed me to choose whether to take the keyb or not.
Just a pity that the Viewty has the beautiful 5MP camera, and the KS20 has a lousy 2MP one…
Now I just need LG to release the damn thing in Oz (official email reply said “LG Australia do not currently have a release date for this phone”).

Well what an interesting post.
So let me see if have this right. The difference between the Shift and the OQO or the Sony 380,480 is that the shift had dual mode with one being wm? The idea is that WM is quick boot up and save battery life?
I agree that would be cool if it worked. So seems the options are if you go with an OQO or EEe PC is having a wm phone.
I used to say when the Sony 380 got under $1000 I would buy one. Then Sam Club started selling them for that price. I realized then what would I do with it? In the fact that if you have to turn it off to save power, the boot time kills it.
The new se xperia looks promising as it finally has a decent screen. One that you can browse on, look at maps, maybe even other stuff.
I guess neither the WM phone platform nor the UMPC has gotten to the point of being a “must have”. They have to get to the point of being instant on, always connected internet, at least VGA screen for 3 in or more for bigger, and last a whole day, while easy to carry.
Then it will be a must have for tons of people.
@ Tony…. dude haven’t you figured it out yet? Humans don’t have the ability to rule humans. So no matter who replaces Bush, they will just bring new problems. Just look at history. (BTW I have no political affiliations)

Your right. It was the Republicans and their wind that blew that Hurricane to LA. It wasnt the LA leadership that did nothing. Why dont you go hang out a little more on the left. Vote for Hillary, that is a solution. She has vast experience. Lets see, she supported someone that lied and cheated. To a Grand Jury no less. Wow, that seems like just the person I want to run this country. Get a grip dude. This is a tech blog. Go hang out at the CNN forums with the rest of the lefties.

Just saying, that picture on the shift’s screen looks just like a guy sleeping, while he’s waiting in line…. not a homeless person… think about it, the post is about the shift being delayed and delayed and the sleeping, waiting guy could be there just for that reason. But anyways, i reccomend the EEE Pc mine’s amazing….

Think about it, why would they show a homeless person? The whole post is about waiting for the product… oh and there might not be anyone else due to the size of the screen, its just wide enough for the guy… and ive said it once, the EEE is amazing as far as umpc’s go…

I agree.
That is clearly a June 26, 2007 picture of a desperate Apple-tard waiting in line (overnight in the rain I might add) to pay $500+tax for an already obsolete 8gb iPhone.
I would have to think that anybody who has spent any amount of time being homeless would NOT take their shoes off when they go to sleep…especially, very comfortable running shoes (yes, that’s right, even if you’re putting your feet in a sleeping bag). Besides, look at the condition of the sleeping bag and his jacket, they look practically new.
Unfortunately, this post took a turn for the worst when Troy’s unremitting feelings of liberal-guilt and Bush-hatred got the best of him…and the only relief was to find a public forum where he could express his most intimate thoughts and feewings.

You know I actually am quite close to say that the previous supposed bug-hit of the HTC: the Advantage is the best you can get right now!
I own one for half a year and it suits all my needs on the go:
- instant on - check;
- long battery - check;
- multi-type connectivity - check;
- reasonable screen - check;
- serious starage and expandable - check.
Some drawbacks include: still too high a price, and shifty sync with my Vista [hopefully to be sorted by SP1].
And you if you feel the need to have the hottest/newest of them all: HTC refreshed the Advantage and promises to start selling by Summer [and Shift apart there's no reason to think HTC won't].
[granted, I have not yet an opinion about xperia... will see then...]

Í actually have tried a Shift on two different occasions. As far as I know things holding it back are govermental clearances.
All radio and in fact all electronic devices need to be cleared before mass distribution in Europe. I think somethings showed up in the tests.
I for one look forward to be getting the Shift.
