Requires power, yes. It’s rechargable and should give six hours off the grid — charges via 5v USB. Good for use with a home system and can be powered by various DVD recorders or DVR units that have a USB jack. I cool my Kriesen DVD recorder in the same way since it overheats; a USB powered laptop cooler on top of it. USB jacks are good for more than just data. Basically it turns your BB into a remote control that contains all its own music. Not a bad accessory if you want to integrate your ‘Berry into your life via G3, WiFi, and now sending to your home audio system too. Kinda Does Everything But Eat, no?

There are 2 units out there that do a great job for way less $.
One has a mic for portable or car use, the other plugs into ac, has no mic – more for home stereo. i use both and paid 50bucks or so -total. I don’t have the info w/me. Will post if interest.

Correct me if I’m wrong, but the unit requires power too, right? That means you’re either going to have a power cord dangling in your car along with the audio wire, or you’re going to have to go the “pro” way, have the power hooked up out of sight as well as the audio cable feeding directly in to your car stereo. Call me crazy, but I’d rather run a 3.5mm out of the Berry right into the dash and call it a day. Screw all that extra crap just so you have a Bluetooth connection. Maybe it’s just me, though… We taking bets on when this Bluetooth gateway disappears from online merchants and is discontinued?

In spite of sounding like a dipshit, let’s hope they allow it to hook up with car stereos although it is just a double sided audio wire.

Moto had a similar device out a while back. I had purchased it for $100. It was a lot bigger and poor quality there was a lot of static. Looks likew RIM took their time with this one. I’m going to order mines right now for my curve.
