T-Mobile to have 3G by Summer, Android handset by end of 2008

Alright, so this is probably a bit too little, too late, but T-Mobile has just let slip their plans for the oft-rumored American 3G data network. According to comments made by CEO Hamid Akhavan, the company plans to roll out their 3G network in the States by sometime this Summer. There have been a significant number of delays, as the network was originally supposed to deploy in 2007, but Akhavan seems confident that the network will be quite "robust" when it launches in major metropolitan areas. The CEO also claimed that it will be "the best 3G network in the country," though we’ll certainly reserve judgement on that front until it actually arrives. It’s good news, but we can’t help but think the impending 4G network launches from certain other carriers might render this deployment DOA. In other news, T-Mobile has also confirmed that they will be offering an Android-based handset by the end of 2008. There’s no word on what the actual hardware will look like, but we suppose vaguely good news is better than no news, right?

data is the biggest part of 3G
parallel voice and data, you’ll never miss ANY calls when you’re playing streaming audio
better signal consistgency, call and data quality will not get degraded when the signal is low
video conference, and make VOD by dialing specific number, you can also make a special setup to connect to your home webcam for security monitoring

If they are going to have the best connection out of all the carriers, seeing as AT&T is rolling out HSUPA, I hope we can see something in that area from T-Mobile.

They were the first to purcahse 3 g from auction however do to the issue of tmo not willing to realse their customers info to the government after purchasing the 3g network the government has taken their sweet time to release it for tmobile use. Go figure though somepeople claim that neither have anything to do with each other. The 8800 and the 8320 are not utms compatable however the already relased nokia 6263 samsung catilist and the upcoming 3555 are 3g even though they have been told not to position the devices in that manner. I agree we have waited a long ass time for the network but not due to the comapny wanting to push back.

Its about damn time, and right about the time the government is scheduled to role those $600 rebate checks, too. Now if their phone selection didn’t put people to sleep.

kanebb why do you care?? If you are with t-mobile then be happy it is finally out. if not, why do you care??? t-mobile puts all out at once instead of torturing everyone but putting out a little at a time and gets bugs out first. sure it is hard on users but users benefit in long run.

I doubt they are too late and it’s too little for T-Mo. I have heard this tune before and yet T-Mo is popular and growing. I am BB Curve ~ T-Mo customer and happy with their service thus far. Cheers, regardless :)

If TMO piggy backed on AT&T towers I’d port over in a minute. I would so love to see some corporate company like “Google” or others just knock the pants down on AT&T , between AT&T & Verizon its time to knock them both down to size.

    COME ON TMO

The deployment of 3G on a network other than one’s own has no bearing on the other person or his carrier, and therefore they should strictly reserve judgment for their own. In addition, of the major phones that are on the market, whether they be the various BlackBerry handsets, the iPhone and the like. None of these are 3G capable (yet) and so the delay for T-Mobile in comparison to other carriers is moot to the point of the impending 4G, especially when major manufacturers are not even thinking about such a devise yet.
