First pics of CDMA BlackBerry Curve
You asked for ‘em, so here you go! Thanks to BBGeeks.com, we’ve got our hands on some of the first shots of what clearly appears to be the CDMA version of the BlackBerry Curve. This BlackBerry Curve 8330 looks pretty similar to the current GSM version of the handset, with a keyboard that looks identical to that of the Red 8310 currently available on AT&T. This should dispel any fear that the CDMA Curve would depart from the GSM version’s wildly successful form factor. We’re not able to tell much else from the shots, but we can confirm that this handset will include a GPS radio. No word on availability, but chances are good that we won’t see an announcement until sometime next month. Hit the jump for some more shots.

Don’t worry. I’m sure Verizon will get their paws on it soon enough and lock you out of every good part.

Seems a little weird how they changed the location of the LED, or at least the face plate is different. It looks like the pearl a bit.
I am glad to see some concrete evidence of this though.

Why are we for sure this has GPS? My 8320 GSM curve with wifi has the same GPS in my advanced options, but I don’t have GPS included…..unless they’re thinking the “maps” is what is making the difference

Both of the major CDMA providers (Sprint + VZW) use mapping software. Even though VZW likes to lock there’s down and force you to get there $10 a month service, Sprint likes to leave there GPS functionality open and give you a nav service when you get a BB power pack plan. That said, I don’t think they would remove GPS from their phones if they have them ready to be used with a service. Free or not.

You are looking at the verizon model of the curve. up to 32 gigs of flash memory(once the sticks become available)some small thinsg changed form the GSM model(obviously Wifi, but only the truely monolithically stupid think wifi on cellphones is a good idea. the sprint one is black as usual. otherwise it is basically the same as the GSm curve. I could see verizon wanting the new BB os on it prior to launch and maybe delay it based on that, but otherwise it should be ready to rock and roll in mid to late march.
and to all the haters complaining abotu what verizon locks you out of…exactly WHAT are they locking you out of on a BB curve?
the GPS?
ok, so they charge for GPS usage, sprint does not. now go look at what company is hemmoraging customers and losing money hand over fist…and see what company is making reports in the Billions. yes that is one small part, but I would trust verizon’s business descisions over sprints 8 days a week.

Finally, I was gonna switch to T-Mobile to get the long rumored 9000 series BUT now that I see this there is hope. I guess Sprint has me for a little bit longer. The only thing is I wish there was more specs, but either way can’t complain.

If sprint is going to let the iDEN network self-destruct…i don’t see why they would keep releasing new phones for that part of the service…
why doesn’t everyone on Nextel just move over to the CDMA side or elsewhere?

Jay Hova, you’re not going to see a Nextel product from anyone but motorola probably ever again. Sprint is letting iDen go eventually and as a result pretty much everyone has all ready dropped their support for the network. Makes no sense in making new products for a dying system.
Also, not sure if anyone noticed, but the edges of the send and end button are more angled than that of all the other Curve models. Much like the Pearl 2 for Verizon/Sprint had a slightly more angular keyboard, I’m wondering if this small change is indicative of essentially being a Curve 2 and not your standard Curve. Although, I couldn’t see what else they’d add to a Curve aside from maybe an external memory card slot and video camera, but the next version of BIS will be handling the video camera part.

I spoke with Verizon Cust Service and was told that Blackberry CURVE is coming 2nd quarter of 2008 to verizon, which means April/May/June!!! I am excited. I have had a Pearl for 2 weeks and not real thrilled about the memory problem (leaking and erasing the call log and messages). It has done it twice in a two week period…but now I am thinking about returning it and waiting for the CURVE!!!

I asked my local Verizon rep about this. He said that he is on one of Verizon’s data teams, and he has seen tow version of the phone - one with GSm/”World Edition” and one without. He said that word was that VZW was really embracing the world phone idea, so he expected the final version to be the former. No WiFi, according to him. And he said it is expected to drop Q2 of this year! Take it for what it is worth - I am just some “dude” repeating what another “dude” told me - but this guy has always been right on for me before.

Um, AT&T has had this phone since last year. A simple google search could have answered that question for you.
The phone plays video but does not record video.
