T-Mobile Shadow gets massive software update
The Shadow is a fine handset, but we think T-Mobile might be pushing it a little here with the "Official Phone of Fun" tagline. They’re upping the "fun" quotient with a new system update that provides some new functionality to the HTC-sourced device. The new software allows users to send "audio postcards", which are essentially MMS messages with short audio notes attached, to any of your 5 MyFaves contacts. A number of functional improvements and bug fixes have been made as well. These include the ability to hang up calls when shutting the slider mechanism, a fix for the "multiple alarm issue" that has plagued WM devices for years, new camera themes, new ringtones/wallpapers/graphics, and the ability to display the camera application in portrait mode. Phew! Nothing crazy here, but there are enough functional enhancements that we think it’s probably worth your time to make the jump.

im aware of the award we had a celebration for that, nothing against tmo but the shadow is a piece of crap, all jokes aside, i have rpl 4 today alone and this is after the software update and we are in the south, and not directly under tmobile, outsource is what we are but we do take our job seriously and you are hard pressed to find someone who will troubleshoot a device more thoroughly than me or drano, we know stuff that is not listed

i have been here for 2 years under different account and a little over a year on tmo im not going anywhere

Ok so you know stuff not listed so does everyone who has ever read a posting on BG reports.Knowing stuff doesn’t make you any beter at trouble shooting an issues then anyone else reading your coments about the shadow upgrade. You truly arn’t doing something right when working with shadows if you are processing that many exchanges a day. Most customers concerns with pda’s have do with basic and advance function of the device more so then equiptment issues. Windows smart phones are the hardest phones to master and unless you are microsoft mobile surtified most people will nevercomplety understand everything there is to know about the shadow. With that being said T-mobile takes great strides to catalog not everything there is to know about the device but we do catalong any known issues and work with htc to verify and resolve known issues. For example the shadow has a known issue with poor baterry life. Tmobile and Htc determind this as a known issue and are working to resolve this issue and exchanging the phone will not fix issue so no exchange is needed. Almost all issues with device freezing are related to low storage or program memory that is on the device. If the device is low on memory getting it replaced would fix issue since any other shadow would have the same storage limit.
In closing, except for the poor battery life once a customers learn to manage their files correctly the shadaw is a real nice phone to have.

Thanks oliver it”s always nice to be apprecatedfor what we have done here at T-mobile. We are not the largest wireless company in the US but we make up for our smaller size by offering top notch customer service and the lowest prices plans. In order to maintain the calls we get in and give our loya customers the type of customer service they need we outsource a small part of our incoming trafic. I have been with T-mobile before they were even Voicestream and for the most part we never had any real issues with our outsourcers that is why I just had to comment about rage and drano’s comments. Tmobile understand s the limitations they might face when outsourcing and they are beginig to bring services they once outsource back home. Four years ago we only had a small group of tmobile reps handling pda calls and we outsorced the rest. In the past several years with the introduction of blackberrys first consumer phone the 7100 Tmobile has converted my call center from a customer care center to a tech center and now with the popularity of our PDA’s we have been converting our tech reps to PDA reps. It”s this cycle of changing, envolving and getting beter and beter that keeps me happy working for T-mobile and with the upcomming release of the 8820 and other UMA PDA’sT-mobile has started training more of their reps to handle UMA type calls instead of relying on outsourcers. I start my UMA training soon and am looking forward to helping our customers that are using UMA.
T-mobile is the largest and the only nation wide sevice provider that is strickly wireless. We don’t sell landline or home internet services like att and verizon do. With T-mobile now supporting UMA we can compete in the home phone service market aswell

I’ve been a T-Mo customer for over 5 years and always have had great support (even though I’ve rarely needed it). I understood that drano and rage were just joking around…who wouldn’t if they’ve had to support a phone like the Shadow.
After I played with the Shadow for 30 minutes, I knew that phone wasn’t for me and had some downfalls. I didn’t know about the battery life issue though at the time, so I’m glad I stuck with my Dash.

Hate to break it to ya, but the Shadow IS the new Dash. As an employee I can tell you for sure. Kiss the Dash bye bye.

Much better comment Rage2k5. I am very impressed it wasn’t your typical post filled with tons of crap that makes you sould like a rude ass not knowing how to perform his own job. It was sweet-short and to the point. Everyone is intitled to have their our own opinions about things and blogs might be the best way for some of us to express our feelings so don’t be suprised when posting anything on a blog that you might find others who’s views are diffent from your own. I had fun with our mini debate here on BG Reports and visit this blog daily so bewared you might hear from me again. Hahahahaha evil laugh.

I agree with you jdslim rage is an idot. Just keep your mouth shut everyone complains about there jobs but just because you have to work on phones everyday doesnt mean you have to put down a great phone like the shadow, i just got the phone and love it and of course you wouldnt like it cuz your “tech support” so keep your idotic comments to yourself cuz no one wants to hear it in this report besides drano who you are probably bending over as we speak.

“outsource is what we are…”
So your just like a fucking plumber… you don’t actually work for the damn company, they just call you in when they need you… which means they drop your ass whenever they feel like it.
“but we do take our job seriously”
Obviously you DON’T because you’re all over this site talking some steaming shit and SCARING AWAY THE CUSTOMERS who might have bought a T-mo phone… customers who might have problems with it later that would require your services… but since you’re scaring them away, that’s less work for you (which is apparently all you really want you lazy bastard with all your whining). So here’s to being jobless in a slumoping economy! When I see your ass in the unemployment line, I’ll wave to you with my Shadow.
Shadow is not a true PDA anyway, it’s a damn smartphone. What the hell, you gonna compare a Razr to an iPhone next? Shit man, fucking quit your god damn job if you’re that miserable. I’m sure theres a job somewhere that requires the ability to quote Grandma’s Boy all damn day.
For the record, I haven’t had single problem with my Shadow ever. People who need processing power and battery life shouldn’t be so stupid to buy one without researching, that your own idiotic fault. For what it was meant for and what it can do, the Shadow is just fine.
I’m in the south region… shit, I might just break my Shadow on purpose now just to make your day Rage. I’ll fucking egg your ass on until you say the wrong thing just so I can get you fired.

You could always end a call by sliding the phone shut. You just had to change the default setting. All they did was change the default.
As for the camera application, now there is no way to default to landscape. At least before it would automatically change to portrait for the contact pictures. Now you’re stuck with shooting videos in portrait mode. This means that the preview is half the size it was before, but it is easier to hold this way.
Did you notice that xT9 is now T9? They finally added a way to edit your T9 words. It was a pain in the a$$ if you misspelled a word. The only way to make it forget was to restore the factory settings. It would also remember and show your passwords as if they were a word, not very secure, but now you can erase them.

ok,now that the venting has stopped…..
what about the continuious “cannot connect with outgoing server” when using e-mail deal that is going on with mine. I can get e-mail but can’t send it when I know the server is good.

After owning 3 SonyEricsson P series and 3 previous HTC phones, this is a huge step up. Fast internet with great upgrades for web browsing and practicality, Nokia camera quality, small and light, works great compared to other HTC phones with bluetooth. One would have to ask “Why is it taking HTC soooo long to perfect this little beast????”
I do miss the qwerty keyboard, but I can get used to this with some changes on the xt9 settings.
Yes, the battery life is very weak and always has been with HTC!!! Then again, so are most other phones(exception with P Series SE)HTC should have made the jog wheel from a vulcanized material so that it would actually grip your finger and it only comes with Windows Mobile 6 Standard which does not work with a lot of 2nd and 3rd party apps….(as opposed to classic or pro with full featured HTC devices) Now that I think of it, I believe most of the improvements are because of WM6(Microsoft). Did I say that????

Hey hdrider, I have alot of experience with HTC phones. I know on my last 3 HTC’s I had to check a box for outgoing server authentication and possibly change ports. I did find the shadow very friendly with email setup. More so than the older T-Mo MDA. Who is your email through. I can get some settings info for you.

VERY !!! funny thread.
The shadow. Bought one 2 days ago.
Cheaply made. Slooow. Screen is HALF the size it needs to be. Overpriced (should have come with a sirf3 chip).
Biggest problem is the shitbrain os; win/ce (aka mobile6).
On the other hand; (+ $20/month)
Outlook syncs (with) it
Gmail access
411 for free
Directions for free
I can listen to kpoa live (yeah!!)
And it will allow me to read doc, txt, & pdf ebooks.
Now if only I could unlock it & install a decent custom rom.
@jdslim
This is not a t-mobile hoora blog.
I agree t-mobile does have THE best customer service in the ind. but these guys are not at work and should be allowed their freedom of expression. If you can’t read between the lines just remember; you aren’t t-mobile. You’re just another working stiff. Threads like these relieve the stiffness of our daily lives.

rage2k5 is a raging idiot. As has already been said, it doesn’t sound like he trouble shoots or fixes anything - he just exchanges them all.
On top of that, why on earth would any sane person publicly make such stupid comments. Is it so that less people will buy a Shadow? (so he doesn’t have to support as many?)
Hell, let’s just publicly complain about all the phones that he supports so that no one will buy tham and then he won’t be needed and can find a job that he may actually be good at - I’m thinking parking lot cleaner at McDonalds.
