T-Mobile Shadow gets massive software update
The Shadow is a fine handset, but we think T-Mobile might be pushing it a little here with the "Official Phone of Fun" tagline. They’re upping the "fun" quotient with a new system update that provides some new functionality to the HTC-sourced device. The new software allows users to send "audio postcards", which are essentially MMS messages with short audio notes attached, to any of your 5 MyFaves contacts. A number of functional improvements and bug fixes have been made as well. These include the ability to hang up calls when shutting the slider mechanism, a fix for the "multiple alarm issue" that has plagued WM devices for years, new camera themes, new ringtones/wallpapers/graphics, and the ability to display the camera application in portrait mode. Phew! Nothing crazy here, but there are enough functional enhancements that we think it’s probably worth your time to make the jump.
So what do u think, is this just the beginning of T-Mo sending out updates for some of their “smart phones”… Like the BB’s, hmm, I hope so!!
This update does not fix the issues with low battery life and device freezing and crashing. I’ve been through 3 of these phones so far and I must say that this is the biggest piece of crap that HTC has come out with in a long time. Thanks tmobz
I agree the battery life sucks, but if they are coming out with updates I am sure they will be coming out with an extended battery. I use my shadow for business and personal and I don’t have the problem of it freezing. I do have a problem that I have to charge it in the middle of the day after a full charge the previous night.
I will say, I switched from the Dash to the Shadow because the volume on the Dash sucked!! I could hardly hear my clients even when the volume was up to its fullest and I decided to get the Shadow because it is a windows mobile device. I do like the Shadow because it is fun, but I can’t wait for T-mobile to upgrade the Dash so I can have a full qwerty board again. I look forward to the upgrades on the Shadow.
I use the Shadow too. I have found that tweeking the settings like the backlight, timeout and keytones will help with prolonging the battery life. Another tip: go to task manager often to stop all tasks if you are not actively using them. Set your email to manually retrieve or not retrieve every 5 minutes. On certain email services you can set up a filter to send you a SMS for emails if you need to be notified of certain emails. I can keep my Shadow going for a day with these steps, and I am on it constantly.

the shadow has got to be the most ridiculous phone that HTC has came out with and anyone who actually buys the device and thinks it is a good device, does not know what a good phone is, i have hated the phone, since, well since before the crap came out, i work for pda tech on that phone and everytime i get a call and they say that they have that device, i become infuriated that someone has actually bought the device and then likes it so much they want me to fix it, when there is no fix for bad technology, the software update for the device was released today and it does not do anything for the device at all it is just something for me to spend more time on, then just replace the devices, everytime i hear someone even mention this crappy phone i go home to kick my cats down the stairs as punishment for HTC’s and the customer’s mistakes
ill definitely agree that this battery sux, but i have had this phone for 3 months plus and it rarely freezes.
you dont work on the devices though they suck to work on and usualy the people who own the devices are just as bad as the devices///

the shipement of shadows should have gotten jacked not the sidekicks at least i dont have to work on them but whoever would steal a truck load of shadows has to be pretty stupid bc i doubt he could give them away///
the box for the shadow is a hell of a lot cooler than the phone, I was playin with that mug for a while.

I think rage is raging idiot also known an id-ten-t. First off I would pray to god if I had to call tech for troubleshooting help a I wouldn’t get some ass like you. I don’t think you would be able to troubleshoot your way out of a wet paper bag. You say you are a tech rep and you don’t even understand basic trouble shooting on a phoneyou support. Talking like a fool and insulting people that own the shadow when you are suposed to be some type of expert working on the Shadow every day is just plain stupid. You are a joke how could anyone in his or rightmind take you and anything you might have to say sereously.
This blog is about the upgrade and the shadow not about handjobs or what ever you and drano are talking about. On that note working with the shadow and other pda devices for Tmobile for over the past 5 yearsany new software is surly welcome.I have to agree aboutthe battery life is belowpar compaired to let’s say the dash but I havedtalked to HTC and they are aware of the issue and we are working on offering an extended battery and backplate for the Shadow aswell as a softwupgrade for the wing.
Sorry BG reader I don’t have release date for the wing software or shadows battery but we all know once they are available BG will be have it covered keep up the good work
T-mobile pays my bills lol im a superviser for them, yes i may make jokes bc i hate that device and if you do call to tech support be lucky if you hear me or drano answer the phone bc we are the best tech’s here, but since you are such an expert then i would not expect you to call in anyways, but all the customers think they know everything and thats when the troubles begin

Hehe. Mid west as not working at the east call center we trully uderstand our jobs. I can’t say anything bad about any other call center since I am located in the east but as a supervisor you should know work for Tmobile is not just about earning a paycheck but it is also about living up to tmobile values and not just when we are at work but outside of work aswell. I know this might sound like compete BS but It’s these behavors and traits that all T-mobile employees should be striving towards that keeps Tmobile finding themselves winning top honers in customer service time after time.
In fact as employe we just recently celebratedour 7th win in a row. We were the fist wireless service provider ever to get back to awards and we havnt lost one since.I trully like being part of the Tmobile team and have been even before we got our first jd powell. Personaly I can say that working for a company like Tmobile might not be for everone and I have seen my fair share of people come and go so if find yourself not being a team player and playing kick the cat this job might not be for you
