Virgin set to test biofuel airplane
Here’s one for you environmentally conscious freaks out there. Virgin Atlantic Airlines is getting ready to test a new biofuel-equipped Boein 747. The aircraft will fly from London to Amsterdam at the end of this month using a new fuel blend consisting of 80% regular fuel and 20% biofuel. There will be no passengers on board the initial test flight, but if all goes well, we might see this trickle down into actual use. While an 80/20 blend isn’t going to reverse the effects of global warming, or effect a sea change, it’s not bad for the “world’s first biofuel-powered flight.” Read

This is awesome. I get bio-heat at my house- same price as home heating oil, same price, and 20 % ethenol. Do a search near where you live for local providers. If everyone and every airline did this, it is a step in the right direction. Thanks, BG for bringing it to light.
ethanol is a temporary fix at best. People like it because it can be grown in country but its not necessarily any cleaner.
Hydrogen is the alternative that should be used. People need to get their companies and govt. to push for its use.
Biofuel is cool and so is hydrogen but neither is infinite. We need to make things run of electricity then make new ways for electricity to be made in renewable form
