HTC Magnum Video Surfaces; WTF?!?
What you can’t tell from the video above is that the guy holding the Magnum is actually 11-inches tall… We’re honestly not sure exactly what to make of this, but we have to assume that in reality it’s is some sort of crazy internal prototype built to test some new hardware. At any rate, Pocketpt.net is claiming that they had the opportunity to speak with top HTC execs (and photograph / video tape them?) about a new device slated for public release around the end of this year or early 2009. Since meetings like this take place all the time, we totally believe them. The scoop they claim to have received is on a device dubbed the HTC Magnum, a gigantic tablet running… wait for it… Windows Mobile! Apparently targeting a few NBA players, Godzilla and a some freakish hairy giants living in the mountains somewhere, the Magnum’s specs are nothing if not confusing. A few highlights:
- OLED touchscreen display with 65K colors (?)
- 800 Mhz Marvell processor
- An 80 GB hard drive, 2 GB of ROM, 512 MB of RAM (??)
- A feather-light weight of 1.6 lbs (???)
- WiFi, WiMAX, Bluetooth 2.0, HSDPA 7.2 MBps
- Battery life of 30 hours
So let’s take a closer look… Bigger than most tablets; running Windows Mobile OS. Obscenely enormous OLED display; only 65K colors. WiFi, WiMAX, Bluetooth, HSDPA, internal GPS and a battery big enough to power it all for 30 hours; only 1.6 lbs. We’re not sure exactly what the speaker in the video is saying, but we think it’s along the lines of "Can you imagine if anyone actually believes that this device is real with the specs we’re feeding them? They would have to be retarded developmentally challenged! And can you imagine if HTC actually made a device this monstrous and put Windows Mobile on it? They would be the laughing stock of the internet!" We’ll get back to you once our translators get finished.

I’m pretty sure this is HTC Athena and a LCD display, plugged by WVGA adapter with RGB cable…

Ok, let’s do a reality check. Look at an 8.5×11″ piece of paper. Now look at that monstrosity in the video. That thing is a hell of a lot bigger than 11″ … my guess is around 16.

I’m gonna call “shenanigans” on this one. I hear a small kid coughing in the background. Does HTC have day care in the executive offices?

I would buy a tablet like that. Things I would want in my dream tablet:
Huge
Long Battery Life
Simple OS designed to be used with a pen
Sounds good to me

“It is indeed a fake.
And as a matter of fact this Carnival Prank was made using an HTC X7550 connecting its VGA-out to a 20 inch Wide HP LCD.
With some litle sincro with my partner in crime we made this joke.
Hope you liked it!”
