BlackBerry Remote Stereo Gateway
Contrary to what the title may imply, this is not some sort of tongue twister. According to the FCC, it appears as if RIM is set to unveil a Berry companion device by the name of the BlackBerry Remote Stereo Gateway. Apparently, this little bugger attaches to the stereo of your choice and, via Bluetooth, streams music from your handset to your entertainment system. Wirelessly. There’s been no word out of Waterloo, so we honestly don’t know what to expect regarding when / if RIM is planning on releasing this thing or how much it will cost…let’s just hope they manage to change the product name before it drops.

Hopefully this will be universally adaptable to other phones at launch, or someone will find a way

They should call it ‘Jam’. Blackberry Jam, tasty.

really? thats what they want to spend R / D money on? Sounds a little lame for them.

lame?
it’s pretty cool considering:
#1 they’re trying to get more consumer market
#2 think about it, you can bring a music collection with you anywhere you go as long as you have music on your microSD card and the bluetooth connector with you.

Yeah there are a couple cool features about it. First of all it uses the same USB charger as the BlackBerry. It also comes with 2 cables. 1 to connect to an AUX in headphone jack and another to connect to a RCA connection on the back of a stereo.

buju, its lame because they are doing it. No doubt if you wanted this function then let someone like Belkin do it, don’t use your own engineers to come up with this trinket.
I also cannot see a huge demand for this.

This was unveiled at CES weeks ago. Just pull the blog post. It shouldn’t even be published.

MOTOROLA ALREADY MAKES THIS! THE MOTOROLA DC800!
Motorola did it over a year ago. You are all blown away because BlackBerry makes this now, but its already been done by another huge manufacturer a long time ago. Now all the sudden you see BlackBerry makes it and its god’s gift to A2DP.

I wonder how many times the date of released will get pushed back?

Yes, Motorola did come out with a similar product a year and a half ago. But this BB version contains an internal battery and is one third the size of the DC800. Personally I prefer portable bluetooth speakers like the soon to debut Motorola EQ5.

Why limit it to playing music that’s on your BlackBerry? Odds are that the original MP3’s are on the stereo (via PC or other). Let this BT device use the BlackBerry as a stereo system remote. It’s already in your hand.

This is cooler than Moto’s or something made by Belkin because it isn’t crap and it has some amount of quality to it and it’s something you’d want to actually use instead of buy and have it sit in your closet.

This looks real promising to me. My main issue though is with the blackberry mediaplayer. Obviously, my 8800 doesn’t support stereo bluetooth so I am out of this game, but does the new media player play a whole album without having to click next track after each song?
