Windows Vista to Get the Brutal Beating it Deserves?

Microsoft’s monumental OS bungle better known as Windows Vista may be well on it’s way to the chopping block a lot sooner than the software giant would have liked. According to reports, Windows 7 (previously codenamed Blackcomb Vienna) might being making an appearance as early as the second half of 2009. That may sound a bit scary, especially considering how long Microsoft spent in the lab concocting the putrid brew that is Vista. Perhaps Gates’ blunder lit a fire under them and the realization that Vista needs to be forgotten ASAP is just the accelerant that the MS code monkeys needed. In fact, it is even rumored that an extremely early "Milestone 1" (M1) version of Windows 7 has already shipped to key Microsoft partners. An M2 version is reportedly slated for April or May of 2008 and M3 will quickly follow in Q3. Additional roadmap details are unknown at this time. Of course none of this has been confirmed but if we were in Gates’ Bruno Maglis, we wouldn’t be able to can Vista fast enough.

I must be one of the few people who hasn’t had any problems with Vista. With the exception of software compatibility(very minor). But CHRIST I’m about ready to dump it for Linux if this keeps continuing.

    Wow, what a crap article.

I have used Vista since February of last year and really like it. It is amazing how many bloggers take cheap shots at Vista for no good reason. Disappointing really.

I don’t know, they shouldn’t can XP if they’re going to can Vista.

But I wouldn’t possibly believe that Microsoft would purposefully try to kill itself. They’re finishing with XP really soon and now they want to kill Vista too? So that put them into mobile-only territory until they release the next installment of the Windows OS.

I don’t think this is true, but once they get the next Windows out, then they’ll blow this crap shack back to the womb it came from.

Yeah, right. I bought a Lenovo T61 with Vista Business back in July. After reimaging it twice, it ran mildly OK. Of course 75% of the time I undock it the laptop freezes. Could be that Lenovo is building substandard hardware (wasn’t the case when IBM owned the PC/laptop biz), or could be that Vista has more bugs then the Amazon jungle. It’s not solid, from my experience. Maybe it works better on a desktop.

i have to agree, the only big issue any of my friends had with vista was the drivers, and that was fixed over time. vista was a let down but so was xp at first so no big deal to me. i wonder how many of these people bashing it are posting from a mac? and by the way zac on your comment i whole heartedly agree. people think anything microsoft does is horrible because they believe anything they read or are on those admittingly funny commercials

@zac – Couldnt have said it better myself.

I’m sick of the media circle jerk that is bashing Vista. BGR is a great information source but, the Apple bias is getting old.

Hey Yums- are you serious, vista blows for a variety of reasons, i would have to assume that anyone who uses a computer for anything more than checking e-mails and reading BGR would agree. Start up times, drivers, general compatibility issues.. Poll 10 people, 7 say vista’s a failure..

To the M$ fan boys here. If Vista wasn’t so horrible, then why is M$ fast tracking the next version. They know Vista sucks. M$ probably figured they could crank out any piece of garbage and the masses would simple smile and accept it like always. Well, M$, its not the 90’s anymore and you are no longer the defacto OS. OSX is gaining, Linux is coming into its own. There are choices now and they don’t all come from M$.

As a long time IT guy (I’ve been working with Windows since Windows 3.0 which was on 4 floppies). I was also a beta tester for Windows NT 3.1 which was another Garbage M$ Operating system. Even though I have several copies of Windows Vista from PCs I bought and freebies from M$, I flat out refuse to install it. I’ve tried it and it is the buggiest piece of crap I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. As I write, a good friend has brought his laptop complaining that itunes no longer works on his machine. After several hours of messing around, I finally realized that the iTunes 7.6 update combined with Vista and a library that is on a USB drive is a bad combo. Now my XP machine also has iTunes 7.6 and a library on an external USB drive. But it doesn’t have any issues. My buddy has never plugged an external mouse into his Gateway laptop (which came with Vista preinstalled). It took 10 minutes for the damn machine to recognize and install a Microsoft brand Comfort Optical Mouse 3000. It had to go out to Windows Update to find the driver. Contrast that with XP which takes about 8 seconds to recognize a mouse and even has the decency to turn off my touchpad on my laptop.
I’m not an Apple fan but I think M$ screwed the pooch on this one… Good Riddance to bad rubbish I say.

Perpahps I am also one of the lucky few who don’t have any problem with Vista. I have it since Dec 2006. Started with Vista Business, then later with Vista Ultimate. I installed successfully on my ThinkPad T43. Naturally drivers need to updated and so are some of the old programmes. But that applies to every OS upgrades, MS or others. As far as my experience goes, it is definitely way better than XP.

I bought a TOSHIBA laptop in August ‘07 which had VISTA preinstalled on it. Have NOT had problems of any kind with the OS. In fact, the more I use VISTA, the more I like it.

Come on people, give it a chance. Every new OS has growing pains. Try it – you’ll like it.

Vista runs fine when preinstalled on hardware. I run it every day on two machines and enjoy it a lot. My new Lenovo T60P sings along very nicely. As an upgrade, it’s not been so rosy I hear. BFD… machines are cheap.

You have a lot of balls ranting on Vista and then admitting you run iTunes on Windows. iTunes is probably the buggiest atrocity of software I have ever experienced and will not touch it at any cost.

Zune Marketplace blows iTunes away in every way anyway – runs way faster, cleaner UI, stable. Give it a try! Of course you will have to give up your iPos and get a Zune. But that’s worth a try too these days. ;-)

    @ zero vista

It’s the lenovo T61. I bought two of them and one of them was having issues with the lenovo hardware. Drivers were the cause, making it buggy and bluescreen. Replacement laptop took care of the issues along with the updated image. Nvidia card was the root cause.

As for everyone else, I personally haven’t had any issues with vista and love it. Going to get a macbook pro too, but my T61 is flying with Vista. It’s stable, secure, and relatively fast with the appropriate hardware.

And yes, I’ve noticed the BGR bias towards apple too. Looks like the moola is rolling in from apple and AT&T. :)

Ok. Granted, it’s definitely improved over time, i’ve had vista for almost a year, it finally recognised my n95 last month, but still doesn’t recognise my sansa e260, fuji camera, all my card readers & ipod classic. I’m still of the opinion it sucks & having to use a 5 year old xp laptop for everything. I haven’t re-installed vista yet as i haven’t had the time, hopefully that’ll fix a lot. Haven’t given up yet, hoping sp1 will work out ok.
