Macbook Air?

It’s that time of year again, folks. With Macworld quickly approaching and the promise of new Apple products looking heavily in the air, the rumor mill is hard at work. The most consistent rumor is that Apple will be releasing some sort of sub-notebook computer (but you already knew that). We’re not going to throw our hat in the ring on this one just yet, but a number of different sources are reporting that Apple is going to unveil a miniature MacBook known called the MacBook Air. There are banners up already at the Expo site that sport the phrase "There’s Something in the Air." There’s even mumblings around the web that this new Macbook could sport wireless charging and wireless peripherals. On top of that, 9to5Mac is reporting that they’ve managed to uncover a Google Cache record of a computer labeled as…you guessed it…MacBook Air. Smoke and mirrors or a sign of things to come? We’ll have to wait and see.

also, the font on the poster is really thin. Maybe a sign of an ultra thin MacBook. Ussually apples font is thicker on their banners.

Rumor has it that the “MacBook Air” will also support WWAN (HSUPA only or choice of EV-DO?), and Wireless USB in addition to 802.11n, Bluetooth and other wireless technologies (wireless charging would be neat but I wouldn’t count on it).

Some are speculating that Apple will also offer Wireless USB SuperDrive and hard drive since this subnotebook doesn’t have internal optical.

Jesus, I have been waiting for 4 months. Take the optical drive out of the 13 inch macbook, put the pro keyboard and aluminum design in, and shove in 4 gigs of ram, LED backlight, WImax or 3g, and a SSD. And try not to make it so hot its not burning my legs.

Actually, wireless charging *might* actually work. Imagine an Apple “Docking Station” with port replicator and optical drive. How cool would it be if you could dock the computer just by placing it on top of the dock? Actual connectivity could work through Wireless USB, and wireless charging could work just through the surface contact. Sounds like a pipe dream, but Apple could probably do it.

I don’t think el Jobs-o is going to introduce just new wireless products. I think “Theres Something in the Air” could refer to Apple greening up their act for 2008. Jobs made some promises last May to do just that.

Please have hsdpa/hsupa instead of wimax!!!
    Great worldwide coverage right now!

(Even in the USA there is far wider hsdpa coverage than wimax)

I’d be prepared to get rid of my home DSL line tomorrow

If it looks anything like the sketch up here: http://macapper.com/2008/01/14/macbook-air-notebook-almost-confirmed/ , I wouldnt mind picking up one of them… it really will help the macintosh transform from a white (not racist) company, into this new aluminum with a black border look. I kind of like it….
