But apple could sell it for $99, just Steve wouldn’t make as much money, and in the end that’s what it comes down to.

An Apple TV should have at least Tivo functionality, but of course with the ability to sync with your ipod/iphone. Anything less than that leaves it a niche device. How many people really want to PAY for all of their content? The added functionality of it being an internet appliance, allows it to: stream content from your pc; internet radio; internet tv; and with its own operating system, it could be a viable competitor to MS Windows Media Center. How about having companies create Plugs in for it or full blown programs like will be occurring for the Iphone. The original Apple TV was just the tip of the iceberg of what it should have been. A $399 price point would see it sail off shelves.

Also should be able to work with NAS and external hard drives to give it space flexibility.

The AppleTV SHOULD be $99, but it can’t be if it has that much stuff. $199, maybe.

well for me,

If it could connect to a “3G iPhone” via a broadband connection so I can access my entire Media collection anywhere I have service (I know, kinda like a slingbox)so I dont have to give up the huge storage capacity of my iPod Classic to get an iPhone, That would make me take the plunge into Apple TV and iPhone if it also supported enterprise email.

and be south of $200 for Apple TV and $350 for iPhone

Chances an update will be revealed on Tuesday as Engadget is posting notices of a Keynote happening on the 15th – Tuesday.

Wouldnt be surprise if there are one or two updates on the ipod lines, mostly being prices or memory/space upgrades and etc too.

I could care less about rentals. If they just included in the ability to read from an external hard drive and play divx without hacking it, I’d get one.

I have an AppleTV. I view it as a souped-up iPod for my home AV system. If you have a stereo connected to your TV its a good option. My wishlist for AppleTV:
1) INTERNET RADIO. It would be great to hook into Last.fm, Pandora, or any old Internet radio stream straight from the AppleTV box and without having to use an unauthorized plugin (streamer).
2) ONLINE PHOTO ACCESS. Should be able to call up Picasaweb, Snapfish, etc.
3) DVD DRIVE. It would be nice to replace 2 boxes with one AppleTV.

Movie rentals is much farther down my list and seems more problematic than the above features (eg long download times).

I’d note for the record that when Apple first released AppleTV they promised to future-proof it with regular feature updates and this hasn’t happened yet. So I hope whatever features they add will be downloadable to existing AppleTVs and not just available on new ones.
