Slingbox PRO-HD and SlingPlayer for Blackberry
With CES fast approaching, the season wouldn’t feel quite right without some early product announcements, right? Sling is bringing a couple of exciting offerings to the plate. First up is the new Sling PRO-HD which, as you might guess, brings High Definition support to the Sling family of place-shifting products. The PRO-HD looks like a great box, allowing you to stream 1080i video content to your networked computers, HDTVs, and remote broadband-connected devices. The Slingbox PRO-HD will retail for $399.99, though we won’t see it hit the streets until the third quarter of 2008. Next up is the new SlingPlayer client for BlackBerrys. This has been in the works for quite some time, and it’s nice to see that Sling hasn’t forgotten about the ‘Berry faithful. The new client should allow users to view their place-shifted content on any 3G-capable or Wi-Fi equipped BlackBerry. That leaves anyone with a GSM handset (save for the T-Mobile 8320 and the elusive 8120) out of luck, but if you’re a Sprint / Verizon customer with a new 8830 or 8130 consider yourself lucky. We confirmed it will work over EDGE, but that won’t be the "network of choice". The new Sling BlackBerry software will be available "later this year" and should run you about $29.99. Hit the jump for an early look at the BlackBerry software.

Woohoo! It’s about darn time! Now I may go get my own slingbox instead of leeching my buddy’s…that is, if I like it enough on the small screen and depending on how stable the stream is.
Anywho, promising either way! Hope this actually makes it to market THIS year.

Can someone define “later this year?” Is there even an expected quarter for the release of the blackberry sling player?

I for one can’t wait for this. I turned my buddy on to Slingbox and then he turns on me and shows me that he’s Sling’in on his mobile. Just about pissed me off. Anyways, I hope to be on an even playing field when it comes out. One question though…will I be able to sling to 2 BB8320’s on using the same Slingbox?

Yeah - Later this year? I doubt that. That has to be a typo for later this month.

Great news on the Slingbox Pro-HD. I can’t wait to get this and slingcatcher to starting watching my television basically anywhere. As for the “Slingberry” that’s a relief that it’s soon approaching. Now if anyone can get some info on the Blackberry CDMA Curve for Verizon.
Someone help us eager beavers.
