Nokia to make QWERTY Nseries device, you bet we’ve got the scoop!

Nokia has done its best to separate Nseries and Eseries devices for a long time now, but despite their efforts, fanboys and critics alike seem to always come back to a few core complaints. Eseries devices have always had roadblocks like poor cameras and lack of attention with regards to multimedia. Conversely, the biggest hurdle facing the Nseries according to critics has been lack of a full keyboard. What if Nokia combined the best features of each series and created one device; their own "Jesus phone"? Would it silence the critics or do little more than cannibalize potential business? It looks like we’ll all be able to answer those questions and more in the second half of 2008. According to two of our reliable sources, Nokia is brewing a dynamo slated for a late-2008 release with some of the most impressive specs we’ve seen to date. Here’s what we can tell you: the device is not yet named but it will be an Nseries and will sport the S60 3rd Edition FP2 OS. The body is described as being similar to that of the E61i with a slender candy bar form factor and a full keyboard. That’s not a typo, guys! An Nseries with a full QWERTY keyboard! Details are limited with regards to the guts, but we do know that it will pack either a 5 or 6-megapixel camera with autofocus and 30fps DVD-quality video recording capabilities. We’ve also been told it will have integrated GPS and a few new goodies that will take the Nseries to the next level. With the impending release of the first S60 Touch device and now this beast, 2008 is shaping up to be quite a year for Nokia.

If it’s comparable in size to the Blackjack (or BJ2) I’ll buy it. If it’s bulky like the N95 and/or wide like the E61 then forget it.

All my phones before my current one were all Nokia. Come on Noki win me back…

If the above specs show up in the final version consider this to be a excellent year for mobile junkies. With the rumor bb 9000, this n series, iphone. It will be a good fight.

Good moves!! I like. RIM certainly has their work cut out for them if they intend to compete in the Consumer/Business 1 Gadget for mass productivity kind of guy (IE Me).

“RIM has nothing to fear whatsoever from Nokia”

Besides a superior OS maybe? Better web browser? Better 3rd party apps? Better 1st party apps for that matter?

I love blackberry’s messaging capabilities just like everyone else, and in this they have EVERYONE beat (other than HTML email that is).. but unless they completely overhaul that slow as molasses OS that acts and looks like 2001, they’re never going to break free of the “messaging king” category.

Anyway, I just posted on HoFo today how much I miss my e61i and wish that there was an e61i refresh with a cam and memory similar to my n95.

2nd Half of ‘08 though? Grrrr.

Sounds like a device that is one part Treo (maybe without a touchscreen) and another part N95. In my book this is a heck of a good play, and one that I have been waiting for from Nokia.

If they do this right and have it US 3G and Eu 3G ready right out the box, this could be the best mobile of the year.

FP2 is going to add a lot to this, I’m intrigued. And as a realatively new person into Symbian, this is enough to keep me around a while more.

    Nice scoop BGR.

I have been a longtime fan of Nokia, but have been unimpressed with the offerings as of late.
This device, if done correctly, will bring me back to Nokia. Thanks for brightening my weekend BG.

My only complaint from the n95 was no qwerty. Sounds like a perfect device but knowing the US market, it may take longer for them to get our 3g band. Either way, this phone looks good and triband 3g (quad BC yay tmobile) would be the perfect addition to this device. Nokia > apple

*his is going to perfect as long as that spec sheet includes WiFi. Even if it doesn’t, I’m sold on this. If they call it an N61i and it lives up to that name, mine’s already on pre-order.

You guys should also have a look at the Mobile-review.com rumor section. There are rampant rumors (from reliable sources of course :D ;D) on a E61i follow up, likely to be called E71, which sounds an awful lot like this one, excepet for the camera which is rumored to be “only” 3.2mp. Hmmm.. two different devices, or just one, that they have not yet decided the series for (E vs N)?

I wanted E61-like S60 phone as E61 died, I don’t really need cam on this one (I have N73 and K790a already), but I want to have full US 3G support (including AWS), and killer reception (E61 reception is bad)
    maybe N78?
