New ASUS Eee UMPC to Feature Bigger Display & WiMAX

ASUS is forecasting 3.8 million Eee PCs out the door in the coming fiscal year and some recent developments with regards to their upcoming models should certainly help them along the road to their goal. Perhaps one of the biggest complaints that critics have is the small 7" 800 x 480 pixel display on the current line of Eee PCs. Upcoming models however, will increase the Eee’s display real estate by just under 2" with an 8.9" 1024 x 600 pixel screen. Furthermore, ASUS looks to be adopting WiMAX by way of Intel’s Menlow UMPC platform announced earlier this year. The Eee will be moving in the right direction on several levels in adopting Menlow, which will help provide advanced connectivity as well as the increased efficiency of the Silverthorne processor. The next generation Eee PCs will be showcased next week at CES of course, and it’s looking like the ASUS booth will be buzzing.

Bigger screen is great, but they need a model that comes with windows pre loaded.

You don’t necessarily need Windows on it. Some people are happy with the Linux OS that comes bundled but ofcourse people like me who like their windows interface and I mean XP in this case then hell yeah, they should provide an alternate OS and the choice should be left with the consumers. I myself think the resolution should atleast be 800×600 and If an Asus EEE comes with an upgradable flash drive then we are in heaven. We already have compact flash cards that go upto 32GB why not have a CF drive with the PCi slot that is not used, or just put inside as a plug n play. The problem is the cost, which is one of the many selling points of the EEE line and yes the important. With a bigger screen, bigger memory and XP (windows taxes are ridicolous) the price would probably be swimming in the lower end full sized laptops that can do more with a more powerful processor.
Asus EEE 800×600 8″ OLED screen; Upgradable flash drive (CF preferred); XP/Linux and the rest the same, consider me sold!
