So while recording vocals, you would be looking right at the laptop screen. Not a terrible idea, but there are many ways as you said to accomplish the same thing and have more flexibility. There are so many affordable ways to get quality recording on the go, and the idea of having my main recording mic 1) built into my computer, and 2) facing the guy monitoring signal levels / mixing, etc... is just poor design. Get a laptop, a presonus firepod or something similar, and a decent condenser mic... presto, studio on the go for under 1500.00, under a grand if you're really frugal about it. Not to spread hate just before the new year, but this is a bad idea.
