Fujitsu bows out of the TV game

Big TV manufacturers seem to be dropping like flies these days, with the competition seemingly too much to handle for a number of historically successful players. The latest to say goodbye is Fujitsu, who has just announced that they will no longer be selling and / or manufacturing flat panel televisions. The company will sell their last TV in March, 2008. With peeps like Vizio and Westinghouse controlling the bottom-feeder market, and high end brands like Sony and Sharp with the upscale screens, there’s little room for middle-of-the-road players like Fujitsu to make any headway. Let’s just hope this sort of competition doesn’t push any more companies out of the game, as the more competition the better, as far as we’re concerned.

UPDATE: As pointed out to us by a fellow reader, Fujitsu does not in fact make LCD TVs, but rather manufacturers high-end plasma TVs that are on the same level as the Pioneer Elite models, and possibly even Runco plasma TVs.

How in the world did you get a job writing for a tech blog? First of all, Fujitsu makes plasma displays, not LCD, so why are you comparing them to Vizio, Westinghouse, Sharp and Sony? Second of all, they are most definitely not middle of the road, they are very high end with their top end plasmas costing 2-3 times as much as Pioneer Elite models. So what we can gather from your little post is you know nothing about flat panel displays and either are unaware of your ignorance or are just too lazy to do any research. Congratulations, either you are the luckiest man in the world to have a job or you have just proven that a monkey can write for BGR.

Fujitsu does cost more but Randy is right that comparing Fujitsu and Vizio is like comparing a Lexus to a Suzuki (the car).
Fujitsu is the last to make all of their TVs in Japan. Sharp has some parts made in Japan but they are all assembled in Mexico.

If American consumers paid more attention to quality and didn’t just shop based on price (walmart?) then Fujitsu would be doing better. Since the average consumer is short sighted & thinks 1080p is all that matters, then even big brands like Pioneer and Panasonic are dropping in market share compared to Vizeo.
