Nokia N95 8GB NAM to Start Shipping on Feb 15?

Shortly after the N95 8GB NAM made a surprise appearance on a Nokia mobile site, it’s now looking like we could see the US 3G variant of Nokia’s flagship Nseries device as soon as the middle of February! Mobile City Online has the black beauty listed for preorder at $800 and the published arrival date is February 15, 2008. Sweet! If history repeats itself, MCO will push their expected arrival date back several times before actually receiving the device. Then again, they’re also rarely the first retailer to launch a new phone so we should see the N95 8GB NAM become available from Nokia and / or other online retailers sometime around the middle-end of February. The new N95 will be the third high-end S60 device to be offered with US HSDPA compatibility; let’s hope it’s a new trend and this turns out to be for real!

Does anyone really care, this phone is a non-event. For one thing, its already been out for a while and this adds marginal improvement over the previous model. Secondly, this phone doesn’t even have a keyboard or even suretype people. The only thing that it does better than any other phone is have a decent camera and video recording capabilities, but is that worth DOUBLE the price of the iPhone or 5x that of a curve? I don’t think so. What is the deal with people liking this phone?

I’ll agree that the added abilities are marginal, specifically with the N95-3 already out and MUCH cheaper.

However, I must have missed the point in time that a QWERTY or Suretype keyboard made one phone better than the other. There’s TONS of people in the world who type MUCH faster on T9 than on a QWERTY.

The Curve doesn’t have a 3 megapixel or better camera with autofocus. It surely must be a P.O.S..

See the stupidity in believing that a QWERTY cures all?

I’m all for symbian and nokia and this is a great phone but that price is a killer. I’m an iphone person and am glad I spent on it but that $799 is too much for something that will be replaced in a year or two.

I had an e61, the battery life was superb but the OS was slow and was the buggiest thing i’ve ever used. The web browsing, at the time was revolutionary, but to be honest, the safari on the iPhone blows it away. What is the point of this big, heavy, expensive, phone that doesn’t do anything amazing. Tell me please.

So we know it’ll have AT&T’s flavor of UMTS+HSDPA. But will it support T-Mobile’s 1700 MHz band?

Am I the only one who thinks the first place to mention this is an online retailer trying to get orders is a bit fishy? I will believe it when I see it, or announced from nokia.

No, it will not support T-Mo’s 3G. I will post pics of the pre production model when we get it in. We also have the N82 White and Black on our site now too.

What I’m saying is that if the phone doesn’t have a reason to be large, like a full keyboard, then it better be small or do something amazing that deems the larger size necessary. So far, for me, the price is unreasonable, and the size is unreasonable, and the quality of the OS is unreasonable, and the keyboard is inadequate. What are the merits of this phone!

Most of Nokia’s N Series lasts forever (like 3-5 years) in technology standpoints but the $799 is a bit high even if it is unlocked and unbranded. But unbranding is stupid, if you have an awesome product don’t you want people to know that you mad it at least?

Really Nokia’s are great and I’m all for this one but there’s no reason to be hating on this one. I mean c’mon it’s a great phone with an unconcievably high price tag, just dont’t call it crap.

“The new N95 will be the third high-end S60 device to be offered with US HSDPA compatibility; let’s hope it’s a new trend!” ahh i can only think of the N95-3. the n75 was only UMTS/WCDMA, not HSDPA. The N80 US version was only WCDMA as well, and only on 1900MHz, and it was never offered commercially.

    Is there one i’m missing?

Why is this phone so good you ask?

5mp autofocus. Your iphone doesn’t even have autofocus, let alone half the mp of this phone.

30 fps vga recording. Your iphone can’t even record at 15 fps, actually…it does 0 fps.

ngage platform with 3d chip, gps, smartphone, blah, blah, blah.

The iphone can’t even send a file over bluetooth or listen to bluetooth stereo.

WOWOWOW, a digital camera cOOOOOl, i have yet to see anything truly useful that is different than what my curve has. If I wanted a great camera I would go buy one, probably could get a good one for the $650 i saved buying a curve. Face it, this phone is just a fantasy for geeks who have a thing for nokia. There are plenty of unlocked phones that do the same things that are much better and cheaper cost. GO CRY NOKIA FAN BOYS. I think this phone has more undeserved coverage/praise than the iPhone.

Curve? I could of sworn I watched a video of a curve choking on wifi. Edge is the most a curve can handle.

And he is right, this phone is not for you. Go to the mall and pick up your stamped phone. Leave the real phones to us.

so, if these things are so opensource, why hasn’t anybody hacked winmo one yet? I wan to see winmo, qtopia, palm os and everything possible supported by them, which I know they are capable of, but I wan it anyway. Next: gimme a qwerty. Plus, tmo will eventually make it to the top of the handset stack, it’s the exclusion of their #G that’s kept at&t up there. I remember the days when nice sony ericssons and nokia s60 phones were on there.

I own an Iphone (work) and an n95-3 and the N95 is by far a better phone but the Iphone has a GREAT interface. If one were to pull out an Iphone sim and place it in a 3G phone say like the n95-3 they would have access to an unlimited $20 a month data plan. the N95 also support Slingbox, that is a winning combo. This would also unlimited data to ones laptop via blue tooth. there are a few other options this opens up with just a little creativity.

not that i would do anything like this but it can be done ; 0 )

Tyler Brock is an idiot. hes probably never owned a Nokia in his life, and hes hating on it cuz he spent $100 for his blackberry crap. youre telling me that the curve is less bulky than then N95 8gb? please! Get your facts straight. The curve is crap for multimedia, T9 is soooo much faster than qwerty, N95 has a bigger screen w/ 16 million colors…what is the curve at? 65,000 colors? your curve is weak, ugly, and useless….just like you.

dont even talk about unlocked phones at a cheaper price compared to the N95, cuz you know you didnt get your curve unlocked. So just go wait 2 years until you can renew your contract to get a phone. guys like you open your mouth about phones, but are never willing to buy one unlocked cuz youre cheap. And go buy your stand alone camera with the money you saved on your curve…..im thinking that it’ll be pretty bulky carrying around a camera and a curve. IDIOT!!!!

Over the course of the past 12 months I’ve had several unlocked phones. RAZR, TREO 650, PEARL, 8800, e61, BlackJack I, Motorola Q9H, iPhone, Curve… I’ve used pretty much everything. You all are idiots with a 6th grade education. The point of the camera is that you don’t need a good one on your phone. It should work and be effective, but doesn’t have to compete with obviously much higher end specialized devices like a stand alone SLR.
