5 millions iPhones sold?

That’s what rumor site 9to5 Mac is claiming. The site posits that Apple is poised to announce that it has sold 5 million iPhones. The announcement will supposedly come during January’s Macworld Keynote address. Given Steve Jobs’ initial desire to push 10 million units by the end of 2008, it’s safe to say that the company could be well on their way to achieving that goal. If true, this announcement would be the first official iPhone sales milestone following the initial "1 million sold celebration" that occurred just 74 days after the product’s launch. We’ll have to wait until Macworld to find out for sure, but we wouldn’t be the least bit surprised if this turns out to be true.
man i still don’t get the whole ‘iphone’ deal. We all know its not that great of a mobile device. imop the nokia e90 still trumps the iphone. myself.. I’ll stick with my BB 8100 for now and soon the 8120

Should be ‘5 million iPhones sold’. No ’s’ after million.
The typical 6 month cycle with Apple products getting a refresh. The 3G version should help them achieve their numbers. The market is going to be saturated with iPhones and BB’s.

I like my Tilt over the iPhone or BB that they say is equivalent, I’ll stick with my Tilt until something else can beat it.

I work on the Sony Lot in Culver City and they are iPhone crazy! AT&T is the corporate provider so when that thing came out all the execs “had” to have one. Well we know how smart execs can be…

I have an iPhone and a Nokia E61, it’s not even close, the iPhone is just a joy to use. Surfin web over wifi rivals the laptop experience in fact I’m posting from an iPhone!

How do you rate using the keyboard on the iPhone? The reasons I didn’t go for one is because;
1. Can’t swap the battery,
2. The keyboard is on screen and I didn’t get a good feel when testing to fly on it like I do with a BB,
3. No 3G. I need the tethering, but if a 3G version comes out soon…
4. Email is best on a BB, but I could deal with the iPhone if it works with Exchange,
5. AT&T. Not a fan of their customer service or general phone service with dropped calls.
But the keyboard was the real big issue. Do you find yourself able to type fast with minimal errors?

Blue, the iPhone keyboard takes getting used to, but once you do, you will love it. With my E61, you have to put pressure on the keys and this causes some soreness if you are a constant typer. With the iPhone your fingers glide over the glass and you are able to type very fast with minimal effort. Pushing on plastic keys at a fast pace can also make alot of noise. With the iPhone you can be typing away in bed with someone laying next to and they not even notice.

Thanks for the feedback. I tried it out at the store, but typo’s galore. I fly on my Pearl, but just didn’t feel confident on the iPhone. When they come out with the 3G version I may give it a whirl, but I wish they’d give in and allow the battery to be swapped. That along with the 3G would almost have me sold.

well now that push email from yahoo is working like a charm on the iphone and its totally free, i can already see Rim loosing a few good customers next year. push email was available from the beginning from yahoo but until a few weeks it was kind of buggy

I’d be hard pressed to believe that people purchase BB’s for yahoo email. And if so, then drop the BB for an iPhone.
If you threw a few more things in there like the browser for example, then you’ve got a good reason. Yahoo? Hard to believe…

i go to a private high school and
alot of my friends and their parents have one
however, i prefer my blackberry curve
which my brother and mom both have
my dad can keep his iphone haha
also, i feel that everywherre i go
the airport, mall, a concert
i see quite a few iphones
however, i think that in the end,
the ipod touch will sell many more
because it is more accessible
and all can use it

My treo runs faster, has a youtube app in the works, has a great keyboard, cost me $60, cost me $15 to unlock for good, runs a well developed platform, has an endless supply of freeware available for jailbreak-free install, shoots video, has irda, can be upgraded to new gsm standards, new bluetooth protocols, is well built, yet I am able to disassemble it, has an SD slot capable through a patch of 32 gigs of storage, sdio expandability, also runs Google maps, and uses a platform developed by the companies apple buys their technology from. Yet, it does all this on a 312 mhz arm, instead of the iPhone’s hideously slow OS running on their 620 mhz. Thusly, it comes as no surprise to me that the iPhone is more popular than the treo.
