iPhoners be afraid, be very afraid…maybe

If you have an iPhone and you love your mobile internet, you might want to start crossing your fingers or invest in cellular voodoo spells. According to Arbor Networks, you’re very likely to meet a hacker through your phone sometime during 2008. But before you start thinking that it’s just the voice of a hater, this claim is backed up by the director of security from nCircle Security (seriously, what’s with all the lowercase first letters?). They say that going after the new big thing, such as the iPhone, is basic hacker mentality, and the new SDK developer’s kit will just help hackers hide malware in the flood of 3rd party apps coming soon. The iPhone has already been proven vulnerable through a bug in the TIFF images, so a fast spreading malicious worm isn’t an implausible scenario. And just when you had stopped believing in the boogeyman, the scare stories just get that much more real.

That’s what sometimes happens with freeware. Stick to pay sites like Handango or others and you will be unlikely to get stung by this.

People say these things every time Apple puts out a new OS. They also say that Leopard will be a target for hackers.
I’m always sceptical when these predictions come from people that work for a security company that has to sell security software.
Mathias your poor attempt at shocking readers is lame because this is nothing new and your just quoting a blog with no major sources other than two very very small security firm employees.

    Lame.

Also all officially released apps that come from the SDK will have a digital signature, they must be approved by apple.

And you might also be hit by lightning, get in a car wreck, have a boulder fall on you, be a victim of a nuclear “event,” get lead poisoning from a Chinese toy, etc.

It would seem that Mr. Kristensen’s goal is to manipulate and terrorize. He’s doing the same thing as bin Laden–keeping people in a a state of fear. What do you want, a list of colors to display showing the potential of being attacked by miniature unmanned planes or poisoned pens?

Too bad you’re more interested in inducing fear rather than providing solutions.

    You should be ashamed.

Well you went and fell for it Mathias. If you carefully read the report, it contains the giveaways…. ‘could lead to’, ‘might well’ and various empty assertions. It’s one of those typical posts that have iPhone in the leader and then go on to speak about the 10 or 20,000 real world virus’s released this year which were for – yes, you guessed it… Windows. But they never mention that fact.
It’s all empty crap, just so they can say ‘I told you so’ when it does happen – sometime around 2015 maybe. They’ve been saying it louder and louder almost every month since OSX was released… it’s pathetic. They have no idea whatsoever about Macs and OSX but just assume it’s the same crapola game as Winblows.

    Maybe, like in your headline.

Those dopes think that just because it happens to Windows, it will happen to Apple. But these security firms and pundits have been wrong time and again with the Mac OS X, so what’s another try as they’ve got nothing to lose. I’m not saying we shouldn’t always be aware, but I wouldn’t lose any sleep over this.

Jeff B., you’ve done it you have turned into a Tilt Troll. Every comment you make now is negative unless its Tilt related. Atleast Galvatron doesnt bash everything, just Apple.

Hey Apple, Welcome to the social bitch’s… Lol… The reason I think apple will fall prey to virii is because of the “can’t touch me” attitude… Then again, the only time I ever had a virus was when my g/f downloaded one by accident…

I’m not sayin’ it will absolutely happen, I mean yea it is easier to get one with Windows since it doesn’t have to be a signed WM app…oh wait yes it does (which really sucks since all the good ones aren’t signed apps.)…for it to work but it’s just computers and the way this stuff works.

But it does help when the phone has a firewall…if they could just make a phone-sized spy/virus sweeper/scanner then we’d all be set.

But I have had no Tilting problems so far.

Based on this premise the Windows Mobile platform and the Blackberry platforms should be rife with hacker induced nightmares…yet they are not.
