Exchange and Outlook for iPhone?
It gets out that Pharrell has a gold iPhone, and on the same day it looks like Apple is testing the waters for Microsoft Exchange and Outlook for the iPhone. Is that a coincidence? Don’t make us laugh; we most certainly don’t think so. Apple has posted a job listing for a "motivated, highly-technical Exchange test/sync engineer with excellent problem solving and communication skills", whose ”focus will be testing Exchange and Outlook functionality with Apple’s innovative new phone". Maybe Apple heard the late night panting and moaning from executives who want a corporate-friendly iPhone? We’re not certain, but it doesn’t seem too unlikely since Apple has a penchant for wanting their very own thing, which is a problem for everyone who doesn’t just own iEverything. Corporate America falls into that category, and really doesn’t want to be without their trusty Microsoft applications. This way, they might not have to be.

The sooner, the better. Really want one but the lack of more robust Exchange support leaves me staying with my Blackberry.

Great….this means no “real” exchange support for a long time. First, they have to hire someone. Then, that someone, has to get familiarized with the iphone, write the program or programs, test it, revise it, test, revise, etc. Then it finally gets the okay and is sent to those of us with iphones. I guess I was hoping something like this was going to be imminent.
Of course, if the iphone dev team were doing it, it would be done within a month. Those guys are talented. Why doesn’t Jobs just offer to pay them and have it taken care of quickly.

More likely, considering Steve Jobs had said back in June that there were solutions for Exchange support for the iPhone in the works, that something is nearly done, and this new person is the last piece of the puzzle who will conduct testing before release? Why else the emphasis on testing?
On the other hand, maybe this is the beginning. And we can only hope that talent also goes to adding better Exchange support for Mail. app in OS X. Give Microsoft more motivation to complete Exchange support in Entourage 2008.

I agree with Eric, no way are they just starting this.
But its not going to be high on the priority list. Steve and Co. never pushed this as a corporate device. That said, i’m sure it wouldn’t hurt sales..

AT&T has started engaging corporate customers to pilot test corporate billing for the iPhone, so exchange support shouldn’t be too far behind.

Gee an Apple iPhone running with a Microsoft product, who would have thunk it!! Is this a sign of things to come or reality?? Shame iPhone can’t do it on their one. Still lacks a full featured phone, sounds like microsoft winds strategy. put it out and fix as you go!!

Another reason to get a Tilt over an iPhone, although there is no comparison between the two, Tilt rules all the way…and the Tilt has BB connect on it too.
Oh, and GPS. Can’t forget the absent TomTom add-on.

I can confirm that this is correct, MSFT is currently working with Apple and testing exchange support on iPhones (leaked to me from a inside source). More details will come as I get them.
Cheers,
