Rogers introduces Voicemail to Text service
While they still might have a ways to go with fair-priced data plans, it looks like Rogers is introducing a pretty cool feature to their network this month. It’s a voicemail-to-text conversion service, and it does what you’d expect — convert your voicemail into a text message automatically. While not free (it’s priced at $15/month), the service will deliver any voicemails you have in your inbox to you in real time. Pretty cool, right? The actual backend conversion is powered by SpinVox, and we have no idea how accurate the conversions will be, but we’re guessing they’ll be pretty good. Damn Rogers? Voicemail to Text and Name Display caller ID on cell phones? You’re making us jealous. As said previously, the new SpinVox-powered service goes live this month, and it’s available in seven provinces including, BC, Ontario, Québec, and the Atlantic provinces. If you’re in Saskatchewan, Alberta, or Manitoba, you’re going to have to brave the winter and wait for this to come to your hood in early 2008.

very cool. this is one step better than my visual voicemail. Much rather see the content of the message without listening.
SpinVox, good work.
I use SpinVox in Germany and it works surprisingly well, converting both German and English messages into text and delivering them via Email. I have yet to receive a message which wasn’t at least 90%, usually better. The only weakness is that it has trouble recognizing names but I guess this can be overlooked as you can usually easily figure this out. Worst case scenario, you simply go and actually listen to the message.
yay…. no…. this is garbage… for $15/m i can call and check my v mail… what they need to do is give us a good price on data..
did you guys hear about a guy getting a $60,000 cell phone bill for over using his data…?

i saw this this in action on rogers a few months back.
i called the demo number, left a messages with wacky sentences to try and trick the application- but its till converted my VM to txt
very impressive, one thing to note tho: if youre in a noisy environment- and you leave a msg for a spinvox user th emessage wont be converted accurately(due to background interference and reduced clarity)
I’m fine with my VM, don’t need visual crap or VM to TXT. If somebody needs me I always have my phone and 99% of the time I answer.
I use a free program called Call Wave. It seems to work fairly well. Did I mention it is free!
callwave is great! its not always very accurate but with the desktop program its very cool
I just checked out Call Wave….doesnt look free at all, as a matter of fact, cheapest plan is like 15 bucks a month….I’m searching for a free version even if the quality isnt 100%…..guess i’m a cheap bastard if anyone can help lemme know
