AMD puts the brakes on new energy efficient chip

It seems that the world will have to wait just a bit longer for AMD’s new highly energy efficient processor. The company began shipping its new Barcelona chip in September, but has been forced to recall them and halt most shipments due to technical and manufacturing irregularities. It seems that a high percentage of the chips were manufactured with a defect that could cause them to fail completely. Not good, dudes. AMD hasn’t completely stopped shipments, electing to continue to sell them to select customers with an increased level of quality control. As they work on a fix to allow them to resume mass shipments, AMD has developed a workaround that should allow anyone that already received a Barcelona-based device to use it. A nice consolation, we suppose, but it won’t erase the problem. There’s no official word on just when we can expect the company to resume full-scale shipments, but in the mean time AMD might feel a bit more heat from Intel.

Sad. I’m currently spec’ing out Intel Chips/Mobo’s for my Next system build. I hope that they get their problems solved.

I concur. This chip would’ve been a great help. Hopefully they’ll get it done without any more problems.

just another nail in the coffin. They need to clean up their act or they will fall apart in a hurry. Consumers need them to succeed in order to keep intel from controling the processing world.

This sucks, I love my AMD chip (AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 3800+ 2.0Ghz with HT technology). It’s way faster than the equivalent Intel chip. Don’t believe what Intel’s site says because they are full-o-shit and their chips aren’t faster, they just run a little smoother.

AMD runs like two chips while Intel is slower because they communicate through the front side bus, and when that’s small, they run slower so you have to get a very high-end Intel chip to get the speed you want since they have the higher front-side bus you want for the speed of the chipset.

First off AMD doesn’t have HT technology built into their chips. Second the new Intel chips spank AMDs ass. Your talking about the old Pentium 4s when you say they are slower. Oh well I can’t expect you to stay informed. You just look like an idiot saying things you know nothing about. I just bought a QUAD core intel with 4 gigabytes of ram and a new motherboard for 600. Also you do know that Intels chips are now cheaper than AMD so any price advantage you think they have is false. Good luck with your AMD though in its prime it was a good chip. Its just too bad that it was over 2 years ago that your chip came out and your using 2 year old information to base your decisions off of.

Bring it bitch, my chip was bought in Feb of last year so uh, it’s not even a year old and do you want me to shove the goddamned box in your fat fucking face because it has HT on the fucking box you asshole.
And yes, AMD’s chips are faster because they are two separate chips that don’t run through the damn bus, eliminating any lag from the chip.
Have you been to anyplace that sells these things lately because AMD has a definite price advantage over Intel.

Why don’t you go research some shit before you go out and rant about shit. You don’t even know what the fuck you’re getting yourself into asshole.
