Windows Mobile 6.1 video walkthrough!
embedPlayer(1335549327)
You waited, and waited for it, so we’re finally bringing it to you! Check out our hands-on video of Windows Mobile 6.1, where we take you through all the new features we’ve found so far. In case you forgot them, we’ve got ‘em below!
- Copy / Paste (finally!)
- Domain Enroll in Settings (Enrolling in a domain will connect your device with company resources.)
- New home screen (pan left and right to check out missed calls, notifications like email, sms, etc.)
- Change Master Security Code
- Added text input settings
- Recent Programs when pressing Start menu
- Threaded SMS!
- When you compose an email, or SMS, and start typing the name of the contact in the "To:" field, the contact names finally pop up like Windows Mobile Professional!
- Internet Explorer now lets you define a homepage, and also zoom in and out using a nice and clean interface
- Task Manager now shows CPU usage as a whole, and also lists it by process
- Internet Explorer offers 6 zoom modes and copy / paste functionality
- IE also uses a new font, which looks worlds better
- ActiveSync will now try to automatically configure your Exchange settings once you enter an email address
- Wi-Fi indicator in the status bar, just as in Windows Mobile Professional
- New "Vista" home screen and theme
P.S. For anyone thinking on holding off on an AT&T Q9 because of the Wi-Fi version coming, remember that this device is running a non-AT&T OS, and although it is AT&T-branded hardware, it doesn’t mean AT&T has actually picked it up, nor do we have any launch indication or supposed release timeframe.

The dash is a horrable exuses for a winmophon that’s practicly saying I’m begging to use a treo even thogh both devices are made by htc -f I wanted a ral winmo phone I’d go with the advantage or being a porrman go with the wing or the shadow but not the dash. Th dashed lcd screen can break rather easily.

how about actually useful improvements like automatically capitalizing the first letter of names added to Contacts - or deleting e-mails with fewer than 3 key presses? or do those come in Version 7.0? why does this crap have any appeal when it can’t do simple things well?

I like the UI, but the phone is just ok. I would like to see the UI on a full-screen with touch. I bet it really shines on a large screen HTC.

It’s a beta, the spelling of “Cingular” is the farthest thing away from the developers mind at that point…Just like with the BlackBerry 4.3 BETA, on the pearl (8100) it can’t take pictures it just goes to a java null pointer error and how you can’t get MMS messages on the curve 4.3 BETA it kills the phone, powers it down completely as well as when the phone rings, sometimes if you answer too fast it will kill the power or if you don’t answer at all, it will kill the power, their BETA designs meaning not ready for market you will ALWAYS find flaws in BETA OS’s

I really want most of the new stuff for my Tilt (the stuff WinMo6 Pro doesn’t have [mainly threaded SMS cause it is saweetah]).
Believe it or not I check for updates like everyday but if it’s not going to be out until February then I’ll check once a week or so.

Why would you even consider switching to WM if you already got an iPhone?

I have to disagree with you about the screen breaking easily. I have put my Dash through hell and back. I have dropped it more times then I can count on concrete while getting out of my work van and the screen itself has seen considerable amount of abuse and quite honestly I myself am very surprised the thing still works with no problems. Other than software problems that is.

Wow, after using an iPhone for the last few months, that looks pretty bad. I noticed that “Call History” was in the Apps section. What’s with that?

Very nice video, but the music really wasn’t necessary…

I actually loved the music. I think it went well with the device.
That’s just my opinion though. The fact that Mr. Blaze declares his track as his own at the beginning kills it for me, but the beat rocks.
I want to see WinMo6.1 on the new samsung slider that won’t ever hit the states.

Despite all of the improvements (which were needed and I think look better than what WinMo6 was before) this only goes to show people that:
Macs rule and PeeCee’s drool…
iPhone’s are hot and WinMo’s suck
Thanks BG!!

How can you “show off” such a slow and un-useable mobile browser? Pocket IE is an embarrassment in this video.
I used to love Windows Mobile, but the iphone simply blows the OS away, especially in terms of browsing.

If the next big thing for smartphones is mobile internet then it looks like Windows Mobile wont exactly be the OS of choice!

To iPhoners:
Your device is nice. It’s true. And that’s it.
You are the owners of beautiful, perfect… and untouchable chrome bibelot. You are slaves of apple. If they decide to make some new game maybe, then You will be so freaking happy, that You can install something, that’s not inside.
Maybe You will get some day some better navigation than google maps
Maybe You will get some day an capability to make something by Your own apart from basic customization.
Give a break ppl. You have iPods with gsm, and it’s 2G only
This is XXI century!
We have now 3G nad 3.5 is comming. :)Have a nice brwosing with EDGE :)))
We have harvester’s of unlimited mobility.

All we can imagine, we can have. It’s already maded. Just put it in

Oh yes Sin: you have all the world can offer with your WM device. Stability, ease of use, a snappy OS that doesn’t get bogged down with apps. None of your Smartphones have wifi. Sounds like heaven to me.
Gimme a break. I’ll put my 2G Safari browser on my iPhone against your PIE on 3G any day. Talk about iPhone users getting excited over a game app being released, yet I see the WM boards CREAMING themselves over another shitty, slow, baby step WM release from MS. Hell, you guys are CREAMING yourselves just at the thought of threaded SMS. Jesus the effin blackberry’s have had that for YEARS.
What a moron you are. Anyone who tries to tell me they have mobile perfection with Windows Mobile is smokin’ something highly illegal. Go call someone who cares on your WM smartphone looser. Just remember to shut down all the running apps first or you may not be able to dial.

Oh yeah. Not only do you have to wait for MS, your device manufacturer, and your carrier to release and bless any updates you get; you have to hope the damned thing gets released before your hardware is obsolete. Oh, wait. It already is.
