Yeah, we’re not sure we know anyone that still uses a tablet PC, but if you happen to be one of the dying breed, you should pay attention. Dell is getting ready to unleash a new tablet on the scene, and the specs don’t look half bad. The new Dell Latitude XT Tablet sports an available Dual-Core Intel ULV CPU, a WXGA LED-backlit touchscreen, 3 USB ports, 802.11n, Bluetooth, and available on-board HSDPA or EV-DO Rev. A. We’re not sure of the projected price point, but with an expected drop date of December 11th, we suppose all should be revealed soon enough.

Does the shirt come with it?

honestly, people have been calling for the end of tablet pcs for 5 years now and they are still around. I see alot of sales people with them, these people are on the road alot and seem to like them.
I dont see them going away but they will not get more popular unless there better way to interact with the GUI.
But to say that your not sure anyone uses them, you really need to get out more often.

There is still a need for them in the medical field. You see a lot of nurses and doctors using them for gathering patient info or creating orders for test or medicine just for a start.

I don’t understand why people think the Tablet is going away?? Maybe it’s not for the nerd-crew, but there will only be a greater demand for them as more businesses transact paperlessly. I’m starting a real estate company that will depend on this tech to be more “green”…

Yea definaly do more spotting outside even the folks in the convenince stores use em for ordering and taking inventory I’ve seen them at 7-elevens all the time.
Heck if you could make a tablet pc run guitar hero or crysis you might have somthing there.

That’s weird. I got a used tablet on ebay last spring and I love it. Still, it is a convertible where I can either use it laptop style or flip the screen around and use it tablet style. The laptop was cheap (about $350 used) and has suitable specs for a portable laptop (although not a desktop replacement). I dual boot WinXP Tablet and Ubuntu and I love it. Having something lightweight that I can tote around and flip into a tablet during meetings is great. Typing during a meeting is distracting but writing is a lot more acceptable. Also games like crossword and various physics demos are fun to have on there. I even use a virtual DJ program at parties and I can manipulate the turntables with the stylus

You’ll see tablets in Police, Fire, and EMS vehicles as well.. there’s a HUGE market there for them.

Agree most cops use them or some type of touchscreen. Seems alot of home inspectors use them and wont use anything else.

This is why it isn’t totally dead yet, a full touch-screen computer is awesome and if it has decent specs then it makes it freakin’ sweet.

I bet there are a few artist out there that would love to have a tablet like this one, but with a pressure reading pen [wacom] at a sane price, and with a fair and easy way to battery it in the wild for a long time. Go paint, sketch, work on images out in the bush. Cool shit.
I have 2 paint programs on my tilt… it is very fun/cool, but a bit small for anything serious.
Also, if one had a skin that was finger freindly, like the iphone or the HTC stuff, very cool. The real problemm with it all is Microsoft just does not get it when it comes to inteface…
