VW and Apple put the iCar on ice

It’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the Apple / Volkswagen collaboration that has been cleverly dubbed the "iCar". It seems that the negotiation between the two companies have gone a bit sour. It’s hard to ferret out the specifics, as the news comes courtesy of a German-language website, but as far as we can tell, there were negotiations taking place between Steve Jobs and the CEO of Volkswagen as recently as September. Apparently the talks have come to a halt, and progress on the project has been put on hold. In the mean time, we’re sending an operative to Berlin to get to the bottom of this, as the details seem a bit too vague for our liking.

Apple has been working on getting these relationships with car companies for awhile, but they are as always hard to deal with. They are hardly back stabbing, but they do ask for a lot.

i doubt it would be high end cars, well if u consider overpriced vw’s as high end. otherwie i dont see any manufacturers hookibg up with apple quite yet because of apples “demands” and auto makers arent used to having it not go their own way etc.

I don’t think apple is ever going into cars, they don’t seem to get the whole car market right now and the way things are you can’t actually demand from them since there’s nothing to get. If they want to get into cars VW is not the way to go, especially since VW is thinking about pulling from the U.S.
Apple just has to shut up and listen for once and not be such a bitch like they are with att. Really, they took att so bad that the top of every cell phone list has the iPhone and where they have new phones listed the iPhone is still there. They have a separate little deal for it and in the stores there’s a kiosk. Apple basically raped att for its life savings and they can’t do that with the auto companies, that’s not the way it works.
A little bitter there Jeff. I love how everyone thinks they ripped off ATT but these other companies all around the world are signing similar deals, are these companies all run by morons? of course not, they are all making money and gaining new customers.
VW is not considering pulling anything from the US, they are a huge company and they have more than just VW in the US.
I doubt you will see really high end cars with any thing but their own audio systems in them but the mid level is where Apple will be, eventually. You will see their touchscreens in dashes, eventually.
The reason whay M$ is in autos an apple isn’t one word: Interoperability. That word is not in apples vocabulary. All apple can do is insert there products being use in movies an a few tv show.s. Ms is evey were cars game consols vidogames the timeclock your logging when you work at frys. They barly even have to advertise.

Which you think it would they are for DRM another turn off and most of all they are over charging you for for stuffthat alredy exists in other models and call it revolutionary. The iphone is no diffrent from the palm treo cep it has slightly better touch screen functions. Even then palm has models with hasdpa radios. An costs the same or less.

Gal, you really need to get out more. Your view of MS and Apple are possible from 1992, things have changed. And sorry but my ipod accessories work with my iphone, and comparing a treo and iphone is pretty funny, thanks for the laughs once again.

you really should look up these things before you try to write them. The non-voting stock that MS had bought of Apple was sold years ago, they have no interest in Apple any more. Please update youself…
